This rare Buddhist scripture focuses on the ritual practice of thaumaturgic weather control for successful agriculture through overpowering mythical Nagas. Traditionally, these serpentine beings are held responsible for the amount of rainfall. The six chapters of the Vajratundasamayakalparaja present the vidyadhara spell-master as a ritualist who uses mandalas, mudras and other techniques to gain mastery over the Nagas and thus control the rains. By subjugating the Nagas, favourable weather and good crops are guaranteed. This links this incantation tradition to economic power and the securing of worldly support for the Buddhist community. 410 0$aBeyond Boundaries 606 $aAustralasian & Pacific history$2bicssc 606 $aBuddhism$2bicssc 610 $aIncantation. 610 $aIndology. 610 $aNepal. 610 $aSanskrit. 615 7$aAustralasian & Pacific history 615 7$aBuddhism 700 $aHidas$b Gergely$f1970-$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0967935 712 02$aEuropean Research Council (ERC)$4fnd$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fnd 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996309064503316 996 $aA Buddhist Ritual Manual on Agriculture$92198265 997 $aUNISA
