It focuses on the dilemma that the diffusion of the concepts of sustainability and recycling has posed for everyday consumption practices, and on how these concepts have affected, and were affected by, the production and consumption of art. Special attention is paid to the changes in consumption practices and environmental consciousness among the Japanese public that have occurred since the 1990s and in the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters of March 2011. 410 0$aConsumption and sustainability in Asia ;$v1. 606 $aSalvage (Waste, etc.)$zJapan 606 $aConsumer behavior$zJapan 606 $aConsumption (Economics)$xEnvironmental aspects$zJapan 606 $aConsumption (Economics)$zJapan 607 $aJapan$xSocial conditions$y1989- 615 0$aSalvage (Waste, etc.) 615 0$aConsumer behavior 615 0$aConsumption (Economics)$xEnvironmental aspects 615 0$aConsumption (Economics) 676 $a339.470952 702 $aMachotka$b Ewa 702 $aCwiertka$b Katarzyna Joanna$f1968- 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996309061803316 996 $aConsuming Life in Post-Bubble Japan$92253456 997 $aUNISA LEADER 04024nam 22006255 450 001 9910744502003321 005 20251009082102.0 010 $a981-9955-59-9 024 7 $a10.1007/978-981-99-5559-6 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC30745229 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL30745229 035 $a(DE-He213)978-981-99-5559-6 035 $a(CKB)28225218000041 035 $a(OCoLC)1398630141 035 $a(EXLCZ)9928225218000041 100 $a20230914d2023 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aFrom Despotism to Democracy $eHow a World Government Can Save Humanity /$fby Torbjörn Tännsjö 205 $a1st ed. 2023. 210 1$aSingapore :$cSpringer Nature Singapore :$cImprint: Springer,$d2023. 215 $a1 online resource (179 pages) 225 1 $aReligion and Philosophy Series 311 08$aPrint version: Tännsjö, Torbjö From Despotism to Democracy Singapore : Springer,c2023 9789819955589 327 $aChapter 1. Conclusion. 330 $aThis book is about how best to respond to existential global threats posed by war and global heating. The stakes have become existential. A strong claim in the book is that we need a world state to save humanity. The book sheds new light on why this is so. The present author has long advocated global democracy. A strong argument against global democracy has been, however, that no state has ever been established without the resort to violence. In this book, the author bites the bullet and advocates a route to global democracy that passes through a phase where a global state is established in the form of global despotism. First despotism, then democracy! But, as the author insists and the reader will find, this is at most something we can hope for. We may fail. The moral importance of failure is thoroughly discussed. The book explored the following topics: · The tragedy of the commons is presented as the best explanation of why we do so little to obviatethe causes behind climate change. · A world government presents a way out of the tragedy of the commons. · Standard arguments against a world state are examined. · The question of whether it matters if humanity goes extinct is taken seriously. · What if the attempt to establish a world state fails. The book is written by a philosopher, but the intended audience is broad. It has a place in courses in political philosophy, but it is possible for anyone who wants to do so to dig deeper into the questions should be able to read it. And regardless of whether you who read the book are a scholar or a layperson, there is no way for you to avoid its topic. Global existential issues concern all of us, regardless of profession or nationality. 410 0$aReligion and Philosophy Series 606 $aPolitical science$xPhilosophy 606 $aPolitical ethics 606 $aInternational relations 606 $aGlobalization 606 $aPolitical Philosophy 606 $aPolitical Ethics 606 $aInternational Relations Theory 606 $aGlobalization 615 0$aPolitical science$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aPolitical ethics. 615 0$aInternational relations. 615 0$aGlobalization. 615 14$aPolitical Philosophy. 615 24$aPolitical Ethics. 615 24$aInternational Relations Theory. 615 24$aGlobalization. 676 $a320.01 700 $aTännsjö$b Torbjö$01746190 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910744502003321 996 $aFrom Despotism to Democracy$94177646 997 $aUNINA
