In Yemen's transition process today, the secessionist movement Al-Hirak has summoned the spirit of South Yemen, the only Marxist state in Arabia. This book meticulously describes how East Germany supported the implantation of this alien ideology in Yemen through its policy of »Socialist state- and nation-building«. In the same breath, the analysis captures the GDR's activities in the Middle East and their vital role in Moscow's Cold War strategy. Last but least, the study provides one of the few compact overviews of East German foreign policy in the English language of today. 330 1 $a»Das Verdienst des Buches [ist es], gewohnte Forschungsperspektiven gewechselt und den Komplex des ostdeutsch-su?djemenitischen Verha?ltnisses in einen gro?ßeren - prima?r das englischsprachige Publikum adressierenden - politikwissenschaftlich-theoretischen Kontext geru?ckt zu haben, indem er als ?socialist state- and nation-building? gefasst wurde.« Lutz Maeke, www.sehepunkte.de, 17/9 (2017) »Die Arbeit schließt eine wichtige Lu?cke in der Forschung zur DDR-Geschichte.« Michael Rohschu?rmann, Portal fu?r Politikwissenschaft, 17.03.2016 Besprochen in: Jemen-Report (2016), Thanos Petouris The Chronicle, 01.04.2016 410 0$aEdition Politik ;$vVolume 26. 606 $aSocialism$zYemen, South$xHistory 606 $aCommunism$zYemen, South$xHistory 610 $aArab Peninsula. 610 $aCold War. 610 $aContemporary History. 610 $aGDR. 610 $aIdeology. 610 $aInternational Relations. 610 $aMarxism. 610 $aMiddle East. 610 $aPolitical Ideologies. 610 $aPolitical Science. 610 $aPolitics. 610 $aSoviet Union. 610 $aState-Building. 610 $aState. 615 0$aSocialism$xHistory. 615 0$aCommunism$xHistory. 676 $a320.95332000000002 700 $aMu?ller$b Miriam M.$0894952 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996308784003316 996 $aA Spectre is Haunting Arabia$91999535 997 $aUNISA LEADER 05253nam 2200673 450 001 9910822074603321 005 20230207221151.0 010 $a1-4522-9442-9 010 $a1-4522-9765-7 035 $a(CKB)3710000000456942 035 $a(EBL)1647740 035 $a(OCoLC)932344183 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001531313 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12639610 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001531313 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11463782 035 $a(PQKB)10359196 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1994126 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000456942 100 $a20150819h20082008 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aSecrets to success for social studies teachers /$fEllen Kottler, Nancy P.
