The shift in thematography, use of person, and vocabulary reveals that iambic verse is a complex, definable genre with all the dynamism that implies and with a traceable development. The various chapters examine the subject matter, morphology, and diction of the trimeters both within the genre in a diachronic fashion and in relation to elegy. The metrical inscriptions and later iambic poetry are also considered, as the author ponders the rise of tragedy and the disappearance of serious iambus. This work is of interest not only to scholars of archaic lyric poetry but also of tragedy and sympotic practices. 410 0$aMnemosyne, Supplements$v265. 606 $aGreek language$xMetrics and rhythmics 606 $aIambic trimeter 606 $aIambic poetry, Greek$xHistory and criticism 606 $aElegiac poetry, Greek$xHistory and criticism 606 $aElegiac poetry, Greek$2fast 606 $aGreek language$xMetrics and rhythmics$2fast 606 $aIambic poetry, Greek$2fast 606 $aIambic trimeter$2fast 608 $aCriticism, interpretation, etc.$2fast 615 0$aGreek language$xMetrics and rhythmics. 615 0$aIambic trimeter. 615 0$aIambic poetry, Greek$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aElegiac poetry, Greek$xHistory and criticism. 615 7$aElegiac poetry, Greek. 615 7$aGreek language$xMetrics and rhythmics. 615 7$aIambic poetry, Greek. 615 7$aIambic trimeter. 676 $a881.0109 676 $a881/.0109 700 $aKantzios$b Ippokratis$0599788 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996237244403316 996 $aTrajectory of archaic Greek trimeters$91021537 997 $aUNISA
