Historiography is one of the most characteristic genres of this period and perhaps one of the most innovative ones. This volume seeks to understand how historiography both responded to the cultural changes and shaped these at the same time. Indeed, a historiographical work aims at providing its readers with experiences from the past and at interpreting these in a meaningful way and often seeks to integrate this type of knowledge into a wider body of knowledge. This theme is explored from six angles in the present volume: 1) the relationship between historiography and rhetoric; 2) the transmission of classical rhetorical culture to areas beyond the Roman Empire 3) the circulation of information, traditions and documents in the whole area of the Roman Empire and frontier areas; 4) the role played by intellectual groups (clerical and lay) in this process 5) the social, cultural, and religious variety of audiences; 6) the impact of difference in genre on the engagement with forms of knowledge. 410 0$aMillennium-Studien ;$vVolume 55. 606 $aHistoriography$zEurope$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aHistoriography$zMediterranean Region$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aKnowledge, Sociology of$zEurope$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aKnowledge, Sociology of$zMediterranean Region$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 607 $aEurope$xHistory$y476-1492$xHistoriography$vCongresses 607 $aEurope$xIntellectual life$xHistoriography$vCongresses 607 $aMediterranean Region$xHistory$y476-1517$xHistoriography$vCongresses 607 $aMediterranean Region$xIntellectual life$xHistoriography$vCongresses 607 $aEurope$xHistory$y476-1492$xSources$vCongresses 607 $aMediterranean Region$xHistory$y476-1517$xSources$vCongresses 610 $aLate Antiquity 610 $aHistoriography 610 $aCultural and intellectual history of antiquity 610 $aHistory of ancient languages 615 0$aHistoriography$xHistory 615 0$aHistoriography$xHistory 615 0$aKnowledge, Sociology of$xHistory 615 0$aKnowledge, Sociology of$xHistory 676 $a940.1 700 $aBlaudeau$b Philippe$4edt$0599499 702 $aBlaudeau$b Philippe 702 $aNuffelen$b Peter van 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996234839903316 996 $aL'historiographie tardo-antique et la transmission des savoirs$93358314 997 $aUNISA
