Throughout most of human history, chronic malnutrition has been the norm. During the past three centuries, however, a synergy between improvements in productive technology and in human physiology has enabled humans to more than double their average longevity and to increase their average body size by over 50 per cent. Larger, healthier humans have contributed to the acceleration of economic growth and technological change, resulting in reduced economic inequality, declining hours of work and a corresponding increase in leisure time. Increased longevity has also brought increased demand for health care. Professor Fogel argues that health care should be viewed as the growth industry of the twenty-first century and systems of financing it should be reformed. His book will be essential reading for all those interested in economics, demography, history and health care policy. 410 0$aCambridge studies in population, economy, and society in past time ;$v38. 517 3 $aThe Escape from Hunger & Premature Death, 1700-2100 606 $aFood supply$xHistory 606 $aMalnutrition$xHistory 606 $aMedical care$xHistory 606 $aMortality$xHistory 615 0$aFood supply$xHistory. 615 0$aMalnutrition$xHistory. 615 0$aMedical care$xHistory. 615 0$aMortality$xHistory. 676 $a304.6/4 700 $aFogel$b Robert William$0127172 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784402803321 996 $aThe escape from hunger and premature death, 1700-2100$93691823 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01479nas 2200541-a 450 001 996218054003316 005 20221206112932.0 011 $a1573-7233 035 $a(OCoLC)41558123 035 $a(CKB)954925483676 035 $a(CONSER)--2006242045 035 $a(MiAaPQ)36268 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2004180-9 035 $a(EXLCZ)99954925483676 100 $a19990617a19829999 s-- a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn#|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCancer and metastasis reviews 210 $a[Dordrecht] $cSpringer Netherlands 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 311 $a0167-7659 531 $aCANCER METASTASIS REV 531 $aCANCER METAST REV 531 $aCANC METAST 531 $aCANCER METASTASIS REVIEWS 606 $aMetastasis$vPeriodicals 606 $aMétastases$vPériodiques 606 $aMetastasis$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01018329 606 $aNeoplasms 606 $aMedical Oncology 606 $aNeoplasm Metastasis 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aPeriodical. 615 0$aMetastasis 615 6$aMétastases 615 7$aMetastasis. 615 2$aNeoplasms. 615 2$aMedical Oncology. 615 2$aNeoplasm Metastasis. 676 $a616.994 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a996218054003316 996 $aCancer and metastasis reviews$92029200 997 $aUNISA
