Through case studies set within and beyond the continent, it demonstrates that hope offers a unique prism for analyzing the social imaginaries and aspirations which underpin migration in situations of uncertainty, deepening inequality, and delimited access to global circuits of legal mobility. The volume takes departure in a mobility paradox that characterizes contemporary migration. Whereas people all over the world are exposed to widening sets of meaning of the good life elsewhere, an increasing number of people in the Global South have little or no access to authorized modes of international migration. This book examines how African migrants respond to this situation. Focusing on hope, it explores migrants? temporal and spatial horizons of expectation and possibility and how these horizons link to mobility practices. Such analysis is pertinent as precarious life conditions and increasingly restrictive regimes of mobility characterize the lives of many Africans, while migration continues to constitute important livelihood strategies and to be seen as pathways of improvement. Whereas involuntary immobility is one consequence, another is the emergence and consolidation of new destinations emerging in the Global South. The volume examines this development through empirically grounded and theoretically rich case studies in migrants? countries of origin, zones of transit, and in new and established destinations in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Latin America and China. It thereby offers an original perspective on linkages between migration, hope, and immobility, ranging from migration aspirations to return. 410 0$aRoutledge studies in anthropology ;$v30. 606 $aAfrican diaspora$vCase studies 606 $aHope$vCase studies 607 $aAfrica$xEmigration and immigration$vCase studies 610 $aghanaian 610 $aghassan 610 $ahage 610 $ahigh 610 $amigrant 610 $amigrants 610 $arisk 610 $asenegalese 610 $asocietal 610 $awest 615 0$aAfrican diaspora 615 0$aHope 676 $a304.8096 676 $a304.8096 700 $aKleist$b Nauja$4edt$0952348 701 $aKleist$b Nauja$0952348 701 $aThorsen$b Dorte$0903393 801 0$bFlBoTFG 801 1$bFlBoTFG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910153195003321 996 $aHope and uncertainty in contemporary African migration$92152889 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01615nam0 22003853i 450 001 UBO2407289 005 20251003044422.0 010 $a8477115923 010 $a9788477115922$brist. 2016 100 $a20090408d2003 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $aspa 102 $aes 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 183 1$6z01$anc$2RDAcarrier 200 1 $aGuia de usos y costumbres$fMaximiano Cortes Moreno 210 $aMadrid$cEdelsa Grupo Didascalia$d2003 215 $a191 p.$cill.$d19 cm. 517 1 $aGuia de usos y costumbres de Espana$9UBO2487112 606 $aSpagna$xGuide$2FIR$3CFIC002319$9E 606 $aSpagna$xCiviltà$2FIR$3CFIC056261$9I 606 $aSpagna$xUsi e costumi$2FIR$3PUVC027457$9I 676 $a946$9PENISOLA IBERICA E ISOLE ADIACENTI SPAGNA$v14 696 $aGuide turistiche$aGuide di viaggio 699 $aGuide$zGuide turistiche 699 $aGuide$yGuide di viaggio 700 1$aCortes Moreno$b, Maximiano$3UBOV892005$4070$0771979 801 3$aIT$bIT-000000$c20090408 850 $aIT-BN0095 901 $bNAP 01$cPOZZO LIB.$nVi sono collocati fondi di economia, periodici di ingegneria e scienze, periodici di economia e statistica e altri fondi comprendenti documenti di economia pervenuti in dono. 912 $aUBO2407289 950 0$aBiblioteca Centralizzata di Ateneo$b1 v.$c1 v.$d 01POZZO LIB.ECON MON 2582$e 0101 0000039625E VMA 1 v. precedente collocazione sez.
