From a ditty in Dutch sung in the streets to a funeral poem in Latin composed to be read for or by intimate friends, from a play performed for a prince to a comedy written for pupils ? literary texts and performances often dealt with highly controversial topics of religion or politics, on a local or national, but also on a supranational scale. This volume sets out to analyse the role and function of literary culture in the formation of early modern public opinion, and proposes ways in which a modern scholar might approach early modern works of literature and other traces of literary culture to explore early modern public opinion making. The cases presented in this volume bring the Dutch and Latin literary cultures of the Low Countries in the focus of international debates on the history of public opinion. 410 0$aBrill's studies in intellectual history ;$vv. 197. 606 $aDutch literature$y1500-1800$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLatin literature, Medieval and modern$zBenelux countries$xHistory and criticism 606 $aPublic opinion in literature 606 $aLiterature and society$zBenelux countries$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aLiterature and society$zBenelux countries$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aPublic opinion$zBenelux countries$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aPublic opinion$zBenelux countries$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aInfluence (Literary, artistic, etc.) 607 $aBenelux countries$xIntellectual life$y16th century 607 $aBenelux countries$xIntellectual life$y17th century 610 $aliteraire cultuur 610 $apublic opinion 610 $areligieuze geschiedenis 610 $aearly modern history 610 $ageschiedenis van het boek 610 $aliterary culture 610 $alage landen 610 $ahistory of the book 610 $areligious history 610 $avroege moderne geschiedenis 610 $apublieke opinie 610 $alow countries 610 $aArminius 610 $aCatholic Church 610 $aHugo Grotius 610 $aNetherlands 615 0$aDutch literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLatin literature, Medieval and modern$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aPublic opinion in literature. 615 0$aLiterature and society$xHistory 615 0$aLiterature and society$xHistory 615 0$aPublic opinion$xHistory 615 0$aPublic opinion$xHistory 615 0$aInfluence (Literary, artistic, etc.) 676 $a839.1/09002 700 $aBloemendal$b Jan$4auth 701 $aBloemendal$b Jan$f1961-$0801058 701 $aDixhoorn$b Arjan van$0801059 701 $aStrietman$b Elsa$0801057 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996211773203316 996 $aLiterary Cultures and Public Opinion in the Low Countries, 1450-1650$91802414 997 $aUNISA
