It will be of immense benefit to students of middle eastern politics, international relations and comparative politics. The book begins with an overview of the rules and features of the middle east regional system - the arena in which the local states, including Egypt, Turkey, Israel and Arab states of Syria, Jordan and Iraq, operate. It goes on to analyze foreign policy-making in key states, illustrating how systematic determinants constrain this policy-making, and how these constraints are dealt with in distinctive ways depending on particular domestic features of the individual states. Finally, the book goes on to look at the outcomes of state policies by examining several major conflicts including the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Gulf War, and the system of regional alignment. The book assesses the impact of international pentrartion in the region, including the historical reasons behind the formation of the regional state system. It also analyses the continued role of the external great powers, such as the United States and the former Soviet Union and explains the process by which the region has become incorporated into the global capitalist market 410 0$aRegional international politics series. 606 $aRegionalism$zMiddle East 606 $aNation-state 606 $aPostcolonialism$zMiddle East 607 $aMiddle East$xForeign relations 610 $adiplomacy 610 $apolitics 610 $asyria 610 $aarab 610 $aArab world 610 $aArabs 610 $aEgypt 610 $aForeign policy 610 $aIran 610 $aIraq 610 $aIsrael 610 $aMiddle East 610 $aPan-Arabism 615 0$aRegionalism 615 0$aNation-state. 615 0$aPostcolonialism 676 $a327/.0956 700 $aHinnebusch$b Raymond A$0594679 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996210563803316 996 $aInternational politics of the Middle East$9994881 997 $aUNISA
