Transfigurations brings our cultural obsession with film violence into a renewed dialogue with contemporary theory. Grønstad argues that the use of violence in Hollywood films should be understood semiotically rather than viewed realistically; Tranfigurations thus alters both our methodology of reading violence in films and the meanings we assign to them, depicting violence not as a self-contained incident, but as a convoluted network of our own cultural ideologies and beliefs. 410 0$aFilm Culture in Transition 606 $aViolence in motion pictures$zAmerica 606 $aDeath in motion pictures 606 $aMasculinity in motion pictures$zAmerica 606 $aMotion pictures, American 610 $awomen: historical, geographic, persons treatment 610 $aculture and instituten 610 $aculture and institutions 610 $amotion pictures 610 $avrouwenstudies 610 $afilm 615 0$aViolence in motion pictures 615 0$aDeath in motion pictures. 615 0$aMasculinity in motion pictures 615 0$aMotion pictures, American. 676 $a791.436552 700 $aGrønstad$b Asbjørn$0800803 801 0$bAU-PeEL 801 1$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bAU-PeEL 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996210308303316 996 $aTransfigurations$91802101 997 $aUNISA
