In particular, it focuses on the pollution caused by rice residue burning using primary survey data from Punjab, India. It discusses emerging solutions to agricultural waste burning that are cost-effective in terms of both money and time. The burning of agricultural residue causes severe pollution in land, water and air and contributes to increased ozone levels and climate change in the long term. However, appropriate assessments have not been undertaken so far to demonstrate the relevant impact of agriculture-based pollution, especially residue burning. This book addresses this gap in the literature. Punjab has been used as a case study as it is the chief granary of India, contributing to 27.2 percent of the Indian national produce of rice and 43.8 percent of wheat. It is presumed that the findings from this state will be useful not only for other agricultural areas in India, but across the world. This book, therefore, sensitizes policy makers, researchers and students about the impacts of air pollution caused by agricultural residue burning---a subject not much dealt in the literature---and provides a way forward. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Environmental Science,$x2191-5547 606 $aEconomic sociology 606 $aEnvironmental economics 606 $aCommunity ecology, Biotic 606 $aOrganizational Studies, Economic Sociology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22020 606 $aEnvironmental Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W48000 606 $aCommunity & Population Ecology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19120 610 $aOrganizational Studies, Economic Sociology 610 $aEnvironmental Economics 610 $aCommunity & Population Ecology 615 0$aEconomic sociology. 615 0$aEnvironmental economics. 615 0$aCommunity ecology, Biotic. 615 14$aOrganizational Studies, Economic Sociology. 615 24$aEnvironmental Economics. 615 24$aCommunity & Population Ecology. 676 $a363.7288 700 $aKumar$b Parmod$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0979479 702 $aKumar$b Surender$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 702 $aJoshi$b Laxmi$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996202044903316 996 $aSocioeconomic and Environmental Implications of Agricultural Residue Burning$92233366 997 $aUNISA
