These Lontaraq bilang were a clear departure in form and function from the genealogically-structured chronicles being composed about the ruling families of Gowa and Talloq in the same era. By the end of 1751, nearly 2400 entries had been completed. These records are a rich lode of information for scholars interested in virtually any aspect of life in premodern Makassar, and are a rare and precious resource for scholars of Southeast Asia. This is the first English translation and annotation of the annals. William Cummings is an associate professor of history at the University of South Florida. He is the author of Making blood white; Historical transformation in early modern Makassar, A chain of kings; The Makassarese chronicles of Gowa and Talloq, and numerous articles about Makassarese history and culture. 410 0$aBiblioteca Indonesica$v35. 606 $aMayors$zIndonesia$zMakassar 606 $aManners and customs$2fast 606 $aMayors$2fast 606 $aPolitics and government$2fast 606 $aMayors$zIndonesia$zMakassar$9lat$2NLI 606 $aMayors$zIndonesia$zMakassar$9lat$2NLI 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xHistory 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xSocial life and customs 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xPolitics and government 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xHistory$9lat$2NLI 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xPolitics and government$9lat$2NLI 607 $aMakassar (Indonesia)$xSocial life and customs$9lat$2NLI 610 $aindonesie 610 $amakkassar 610 $aannalen 610 $aindonesia 610 $aannals 610 $asociale geschiedenis 610 $amakassar 610 $asocial history 610 $aArung Palakka 610 $aBima 610 $aBone state 610 $aGowa Regency 610 $aNetherlands 610 $aSitti 610 $aSultanate of Gowa 610 $aSumbawa 615 0$aMayors 615 7$aManners and customs. 615 7$aMayors. 615 7$aPolitics and government. 615 7$aMayors 615 7$aMayors 676 $a305.80095984 700 $aCummings$b William$4edt$0801002 702 $aCummings$b William$g(William P.), 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996201663203316 996 $aMakassar annals$91802361 997 $aUNISA
