Nietzsche's philosophy : an overview -- The doctrine of eternal recurrence. Remarks on the history of the notion -- A question of Nietzsche's texts -- Conceptual issues -- Nietzsche's existential imperative -- Nietzsche's eternalistic countermyth -- Epilogue. Foundations of the foundation. 330 $aThis volume is a general interpretation of Nietzsche's works, with emphasis on the "doctrine of eternal recurrence," which Nietzsche considered his most significant philosophic contribution. Magnus disposes of traditional schools of interpreta-tion and argues a new thesis. First, since the value of life cannot be estimated, for Nietzsche, estimates of life are "self-reference clues," or, in Magnus's words, "conceptual Rorschachs." The doctrine of eternal recurrence is an attitude toward life?that of nihilism overcome. Magnus regards this doctrine as a "countermyth"?an antidote to the flight from experience sanctioned by Christianity, philosophy, and nihilism. A long opening chapter serves as an excellent introduction to Nietzsche's philosophy in general. Subsequent chapters trace the history of recurrence theories, discuss textual and conceptual problems, and, finally, expound the meaning of the doctrine of eternal recurrence. 606 $aExistenzialismus$2gnd 606 $aNihilismus$2gnd 606 $aExistentie$2gtt 606 $aEeuwige wederkeer$2gtt 606 $aSuperman (Philosophical concept)$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01138907 606 $aExistentialism$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00918204 606 $aEternal return$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00915773 606 $aExistentialisme 606 $aSurhomme 606 $aRetour eternel 606 $aExistentialism 606 $aSuperman (Philosophical concept) 606 $aEternal return 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aExistenzialismus 615 0$aNihilismus 615 10$aExistentie. 615 10$aEeuwige wederkeer. 615 0$aSuperman (Philosophical concept) 615 0$aExistentialism. 615 0$aEternal return. 615 0$aExistentialisme. 615 0$aSurhomme. 615 0$aRetour eternel. 615 0$aExistentialism. 615 0$aSuperman (Philosophical concept) 615 0$aEternal return. 700 $aMagnus$b Bernd$0496232 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910524860903321 996 $aNietzsche's Existential Imperative$92721016 997 $aUNINA
