Lars Maischak shows that the success of Bremen's merchants in helping make an industrial-capitalist world market created the conditions of their ultimate undoing: the new economy of industrial capitalism gave rise to democracy and the nation-state, undermining the political and economic power of this mercantile elite. Maischak argues that the experience of Bremen's merchants is representative of the transformation of the role of merchant capital in the first wave of globalization, with implications for our understanding of modern capitalism, in general. 410 0$aPublications of the German Historical Institute. 606 $aMerchants$zGermany$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aMerchants$zUnited States$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aGermany$xCommerce$zUnited States$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aUnited States$xCommerce$zGermany$xHistory$y19th century 615 0$aMerchants$xHistory 615 0$aMerchants$xHistory 676 $a382.0943/073 700 $aMaischak$b Lars$f1970-$01047675 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463454703321 996 $aGerman merchants in the nineteenth-century Atlantic$92475403 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03588nam 2200673 a 450 001 9910781955303321 005 20230124183651.0 010 $a1-61470-473-2 035 $a(CKB)2550000000059344 035 $a(EBL)3020312 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000569681 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12234932 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000569681 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10548063 035 $a(PQKB)11510312 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3020312 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3020312 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10676564 035 $a(OCoLC)756785475 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000000059344 100 $a20090424d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aOn site geoarchaeology on a Neolithic tell site in Greece$b[electronic resource] $earchaeological sediments, microartifacts and software development /$fDimitris Kontogiorgos, editor 210 $aHauppauge, N.Y. $cNova Science Publishers$dc2009 215 $a1 online resource (102 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a1-60741-366-3 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aThe rise of a Neolithic tell : the evidence from particle size analysis on archaeological sediments / Dimitris Kontogiorgos -- Tell the story of a ditch : additional sedimentary and microartifactual evidence for the use of space on a Neolithic tell / Dimitris Kontogiorgos -- Test again for the optimum!
