This essay, which addresses planning and management in the city of Palermo since the end of the Second World War, reveals the complexities of the mechanisms at work in the urban area which are responsible for the deterioration of the territory and the living conditions of the city?s inhabitants. The author establishes links between two areas of research. The first deals with the political culture of local government: a culture based on practice, traditions and performance, but also on links with the territory, the citizens and the common good. The second involves the policies implemented by these same authorities and the techniques of government to which they resort. The study uses a global approach to analyse the day-to-day reality of the city as well as its major developments. The conduct of the public authorities is addressed in relation to urban planning policies and, more generally, urban services (water, waste disposal) and the different interventions which shape the territory. Providing an important contribution to our understanding of the realities of contemporary Italy and the Mezzogiorno in particular, the volume provides keys for reading a city which amazes and bewilders visitors. Beyond that, this essay uses the case of Palermo to identify avenues for researching a model of local government in Southern Italy. 606 $aPolitical corruption 606 $aUrban policy 606 $aPolitics and government 607 $aItaly--Palermo 610 $amafia 610 $aillégalité 610 $aaménagement urbain 610 $aterritoire urbain 615 0$aPolitical corruption 615 0$aUrban policy 615 0$aPolitics and government 700 $aMaccaglia$b Fabrizio$0329765 801 0$bPQKB 801 2$bUkMaJRU 912 $a9910139975603321 996 $aPalerme, Illégalismes et Gouvernement Urbain D'exception$92137325 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01735nam0 22003371i 450 001 UON00266903 005 20231205103738.434 010 $a88-85320-25-2 100 $a20050922d2005 |0itac50 ba 101 $aeng 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aSouth Arabian necropolises$eItalian excavations at al-Makhdarah and Kharibat al-Ahjur (Republic of Yemen)$fAlessandro De Maigret and Sabina Antonini$gwith contributions by Alfredo Coppa, Stephanie Damadio and Angela Luppino 210 $aRoma$cIsIAO$d2005 215 $a149 p., 111 p. di tav$cill.$d35 cm 410 1$1001UON00261929$12001 $aReports and Memoirs.
