While reaffirming the centrality of slaving activities and of the networks that underpinned them, this collection of new essays shows that there were major Portuguese-Brazilian slave-trading activities in the South Atlantic outside Luanda as well as the Angolan-Brazil axes upon which historians usually focus. In drawing attention to these aspects of the South Atlantic commercial world, we are reminded that this was a world of change and also one in which Portuguese-Brazilian traders were unable to sustain in the face of competition from northern European rivals the dominant position in slave trading in Atlantic Africa that they had first established in the sixteenth century. 410 0$aAtlantic world (Leiden, Netherlands) ;$vVolume 30. 606 $aSlave trade$zPortugal$xHistory 606 $aSlave trade$zBrazil$xHistory 606 $aSlave trade$zSouth Atlantic Ocean$xHistory 606 $aSlave trade$zAfrica, Sub-Saharan$xHistory 607 $aPortugal$xCommerce$xHistory 607 $aBrazil$xCommerce$xHistory 615 0$aSlave trade$xHistory. 615 0$aSlave trade$xHistory. 615 0$aSlave trade$xHistory. 615 0$aSlave trade$xHistory. 676 $a306.3/6209469 702 $aRichardson$b David$f1946- 702 $aSilva$b Filipa Ribeiro da$f1974- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788037203321 996 $aNetworks and trans-cultural exchange$93765527 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01183nam2 22002891i 450 001 UON00424832 005 20231205104842.619 100 $a20130520d1984 |0itac50 ba 101 $aeng 102 $aGB 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aGreat tours and detours$fA.M.Rosenthal$gArthur Gelb 210 $aLondon$cEbury$d1984 215 $a336 p.$d21 cm. 461 1$1001UON00424831$12001 $aˆThe ‰Sophisticated traveller$1210 $aLondon$cEbury$d1984$1215 $a21 cm. 606 $aNARRATIVA INGLESE$xSec. 18.-19.$xStudi$3UONC078542$2FI 620 $aGB$dLondon$3UONL003044 676 $a823.91409$cNarrativa inglese, 1945-1999.
