Our challenge is no different today, but it is more urgent because the accelerating pace of technological change creates potentially enormous dangers as well as benefits. Accelerating Democracy shows how to adapt democracy to new information technologies that can enhance political decision making and enable us to navigate the social rapids ahead. John O. McGinnis demonstrates how these new technologies combine to address a problem as old as democracy itself--how to help citizens better evaluate the consequences of their political choices. As society became more complex in the nineteenth century, social planning became a top-down enterprise delegated to experts and bureaucrats. Today, technology increasingly permits information to bubble up from below and filter through more dispersed and competitive sources. McGinnis explains how to use fast-evolving information technologies to more effectively analyze past public policy, bring unprecedented intensity of scrutiny to current policy proposals, and more accurately predict the results of future policy. But he argues that we can do so only if government keeps pace with technological change. For instance, it must revive federalism to permit different jurisdictions to test different policies so that their results can be evaluated, and it must legalize information markets to permit people to bet on what the consequences of a policy will be even before that policy is implemented. Accelerating Democracy reveals how we can achieve a democracy that is informed by expertise and social-scientific knowledge while shedding the arrogance and insularity of a technocracy. 606 $aInformation technology$xPolitical aspects 606 $aTechnological innovations$xPolitical aspects 606 $aDemocracy 606 $aDemocratization 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aInformation technology$xPolitical aspects. 615 0$aTechnological innovations$xPolitical aspects. 615 0$aDemocracy. 615 0$aDemocratization. 676 $a320.014 686 $aZG 8645$2rvk 700 $aMcGinnis$b John O.$f1957-$01029588 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452560803321 996 $aAccelerating democracy$92446102 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01866nas a2200325 i 4500 001 991001644409707536 005 20231114120927.0 008 060525m20049999 || | |ita 022 $a1970-2345 035 $ab13404714-39ule_inst 229 0$aNea Rhome 245 00$aNea Rhome :$brivista di ricerche bizantinistiche 260 $aRoma :$bUniversità degli Studi di Tor Vergata,$c2004- 591 $aCodice CNR: PT 02340563 592 $aLE007 2005- 907 $a.b13404714$b19-03-18$c25-05-06 912 $a991001644409707536 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2005$cv. 2$g1$i2007000159019$lle007$op$pE43.00$q-$rn$so $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i14241298$z25-05-06 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2006$cv. 3$g1$i2007000159026$lle007$op$pE0.00$q-$rn$so $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i1474580x$z07-05-08 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2007$cv. 4$g1$i2007000159033$lle007$op$pE43.00$q-$rn$so $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i14745835$z07-05-08 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2008$cv. 5$g1$i2007000183540$lle007$op$pE54.00$q-$rn$so $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15000230$z09-09-09 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2009$cv. 6$g1$i2007000208663$lle007$op$pE58.00$q-$rn$s- $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15270749$z23-05-11 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2010$cv. 7$g1$i2007000237656$lle007$op$pE65.00$q-$rn$s- $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15482947$z19-02-13 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2011$cv. 8$g1$i2007000244852$lle007$op$pE61.80$q-$rn$s- $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i1553716x$z07-10-13 945 $aLE007$cv. 8$g2$lle007$on$pE70.00$q-$rn$s- $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15611917$z13-05-14 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2012$cv. 9$g1$i2007000256886$lle007$op$pE62.00$q-$rn$s- $t0$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15649696$z10-12-14 945 $aLE007 PER Nea 2013$cv. 10$g1$i2007000270066$lle007$op$pE62.00$q-$rn$s- $t18$u0$v0$w0$x0$y.i15720780$z11-05-16 996 $aNea Rhome$91091438 997 $aUNISALENTO 998 $ale007$b01-01-01$cs$da $e-$fita$git $h0$i0 LEADER 01123nam0 22002771i 450 001 UON00396303 005 20231205104636.528 010 $a978-88-420-9607-8 100 $a20110725d2011 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| ||||| 200 1 $aIntroduzione a Aby Warburg$fClaudia Cieri Via - Roma$gBari$eLaterza, 2011 - 199 p. ; 18 cm. 410 1$1001UON00398670$12001 $aMaestri del Novecento Laterza - Roma$aBari$eLaterza$v18 606 $aWARBURG ABY$3UONC047872$2FI 620 $aIT$dRoma$3UONL000004 620 $aIT$dBari$3UONL000072 676 $a701$cFilosofia e teoria delle belle arti e delle arti decorative.$v21 700 1$aCIERI VIA$bClaudia$3UONV175117$0220882 712 $aLaterza$3UONV276725$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20250530$gRICA 899 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$2UONSI 912 $aUON00396303 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI FS 2.0 0961 $eSI FP 22090 5 0961 $sBuono 996 $aIntroduzione a Aby Warburg$91139624 997 $aUNIOR
