The documents address such legal issues as blood and sexual offenses, family disputes, inheritance, private transactions in land and water rights, tribal boundaries, contracts and obligations. The documents, some of which date back to the 19th century, provide vital information on the process of Islamization of the tribal customary law in the precinct of the tribal judge. The facsimile reproductions of the manuscripts are included, rendering direct access to the original documents. The study is intended for students of Islamic law, of customary law and of comparative law, and historians interested in the legal, social and economic history of modern Palestine and Jordan. A linguistic essay, by Dr. M?s? Shaw?rbah, based on the Bedouin documents, appears at the end of the study. 410 0$aStudies in Islamic law and society ;$v. 33. 606 $aCustomary law (Islamic law)$zPalestine 606 $aCustomary law (Islamic law)$zJordan 606 $aCustomary law 606 $aLaw, Bedouin 607 $aJudean Desert 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCustomary law (Islamic law) 615 0$aCustomary law (Islamic law) 615 0$aCustomary law. 615 0$aLaw, Bedouin. 676 $a340.5/9 700 $aLayish$b Aharon$f1933-$0658666 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456977103321 996 $aLegal documents from the Judean desert$92471195 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05254nam 2200781Ia 450 001 996247921303316 005 20230331005404.0 010 $a1-282-06966-7 010 $a9786612069666 010 $a0-226-07789-6 024 7 $a10.7208/9780226077895 035 $a(CKB)1000000000396133 035 $a(dli)HEB01498 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000362377 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11278276 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000362377 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10380628 035 $a(PQKB)10263358 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000084412 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11112504 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000084412 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10164374 035 $a(PQKB)11352904 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC432200 035 $a(DE-B1597)535496 035 $a(OCoLC)824153205 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780226077895 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL432200 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10286141 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL206966 035 $a(OCoLC)55716510 035 $a(MiU)MIU01000000000000003602859 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000396133 100 $a19920929d1990 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmnummmmuuuu 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aLaw, sex, and Christian society in medieval Europe /$fJames A. Focusing on the Church's own legal system of canon law, James A. Brundage offers a comprehensive history of legal doctrines-covering the millennium from A.D. 500 to 1500-concerning a wide variety of sexual behavior, including marital sex, adultery, homosexuality, concubinage, prostitution, masturbation, and incest. His survey makes strikingly clear how the system of sexual control in a world we have half-forgotten has shaped the world in which we live today. The regulation of marriage and divorce as we know it today, together with the outlawing of bigamy and polygamy and the imposition of criminal sanctions on such activities as sodomy, fellatio, cunnilingus, and bestiality, are all based in large measure upon ideas and beliefs about sexual morality that became law in Christian Europe in the Middle Ages. "Brundage's book is consistently learned, enormously useful, and frequently entertaining. It is the best we have on the relationships between theological norms, legal principles, and sexual practice."-Peter Iver Kaufman, Church History 410 0$aACLS Humanities E-Book. 606 $aSex and law$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aSex crimes$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aSex$xReligious aspects$xChristianity$xHistory 606 $aLaw, Medieval$xHistory 610 $alegal issues, litigation, lawyer, sex, sexuality, christian, christianity, faith, belief, religion, religious studies, time period, era, middle ages, european, western, sexual conduct, origin, development, church, canon, system, behavior, marital, adultery, homosexuality, concubine, prostitute, prostitution, masturbation, incest, taboo, control, regulation, theology, theological. 615 0$aSex and law$xHistory. 615 0$aSex crimes$xHistory. 615 0$aSex$xReligious aspects$xChristianity$xHistory. 615 0$aLaw, Medieval$xHistory. 676 $a344.4/054 700 $aBrundage$b James A$0212470 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996247921303316 996 $aLaw, sex, and Christian society in Medieval Europe$91380754 997 $aUNISA LEADER 01574nam2 22003011i 450 001 UON00348102 005 20231205104329.367 100 $a20091127d1903 |0itac50 ba 101 $arum$aGER$aHUN 102 $aRO 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aDocumente privitóre la Istoria Romanilor$eVol. 12. : 1594-1602$eActe relative la razboaiele si cuceririle lui Mihai-Voda Viteazul/ adunate si publicate de Neculai Iorga 210 $aBucuresci$cStabilimentul Grafic I.
