These years are characterized by the rise of the "new novelists," who questioned the representational function of writing as they created works of imagination that turned in upon themselves and away from exterior reality. It became fashionable at one point to affirm that literature was no longer about the world but uniquely about the words on a page, the signifying surface of the text. Ellison tests this assumption, showing that even in the most seemingly self-referential fictions the words point to the world from which they can never completely separate themselves. Through close readings Ellison examines the novels and theoretical writings of authors whose works are fundamental to our perception of contemporary French writing and thought: Camus, Robbe-Grillet, Simon, Duras, Sarraute, Blanchot, and Beckett. The result is a new understanding of the link between the referential function of literary language and the problematic of the ethics of fiction. 606 $aFrench fiction$y20th century$xHistory and criticism$xTheory, etc 606 $aExperimental fiction, French$xHistory and criticism 606 $aReference (Philosophy) in literature 606 $aMimesis in literature 615 0$aFrench fiction$xHistory and criticism$xTheory, etc. 615 0$aExperimental fiction, French$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aReference (Philosophy) in literature. 615 0$aMimesis in literature. 676 $a843/.91409 700 $aEllison$b David R$01031195 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910779903503321 996 $aOf words and the world$93756537 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01124nam0 22002891i 450 001 UON00314065 005 20231205104109.324 100 $a20080721d1962 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aGiornali veneziani del settecento$fa cura di Marino Berengo 205 $aMilano : Feltrinelli$b1962 210 $a735 p.$a24 cm 215 $aIn custodia. 410 1$1001UON00298704$12001 $aCollana di periodici italiani e stranieri$1210 $aMilano$cFeltrinelli$d19-$v5 606 $aGIORNALI$xVenezia$xSec. 18.$3UONC069155$2FI 620 $aIT$dMilano$3UONL000005 676 $a070$cGiornalismo ed editoria$v21 700 1$aBerengo$bMarino$3UONV101517$037634 712 $aFeltrinelli$3UONV246160$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20250606$gRICA 899 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$2UONSI 912 $aUON00314065 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ITA II 0343 $eSI MR 74872 5 0343 996 $aGiornali veneziani del Settecento$9222816 997 $aUNIOR
