This applies in particular to deformed bodies that, due to their conspicuous otherness, are repeatedly the subject of perceptual-theoretical discourses. This is evident in two respects: on the one hand, it is already being discussed in contemporary sources how the physical peculiarities stimulate the viewer's inner imagination, and on the other hand physically deformed people, at least in art and literature, are conspicuously characterized by increased perceptive abilities. The physical deformation marks border crossing. It points beyond things, 'the other' - whether it is a culturally different thing or the 'other' of this worldliness: the transcendent and the divine. Although one can not assume a uniform body concept for the high and late Middle Ages, it is noticeable how many intersections the deformed body moves into the center of perception. This diversity is also reflected in the perspectives of various specialist disciplines, such as: For example, art and literature, medical history, did/ability studies or theology in this volume, the specific nature of the deformed body in its relation to epistemology and just to "other" trace. 330 $aIn der Kultur des Mittelalters nehmen Körper in ihrer äußeren Zeichenhaftigkeit eine zentrale Stellung ein. Dies gilt insbesondere für deformierte Körper, die aufgrund ihrer auffälligen Andersartigkeit immer wieder Thema wahrnehmungstheoretischer Diskurse werden. Das zeigt sich in zweierlei Hinsicht: Zum einen wird bereits in zeitgenössischen Quellen diskutiert, wie die körperlichen Besonderheiten den inneren Imaginationsapparat der Betrachter stimulieren, zum anderen zeichnen sich körperlich Deformierte zumindest in Kunst und Literatur auffallend häufi g durch gesteigerte Wahrnehmungsfähigkeiten aus. Die körperliche Deformation markiert dabei Grenzüberschreitungen. Sie weist über die Dinge hinaus auf ?das Andere? ? gleich ob es sich dabei um ein kulturell Anderes handelt, oder um das ?Andere? der Diesseitigkeit: das Transzendente und Göttliche. Obgleich man für das Hoch- und Spätmittelalter kein einheitliches Körperkonzept annehmen kann, ist auffällig, an wie vielen Schnittpunkten der deformierte Körper ins Zentrum der Wahrnehmung rückt. Diese Vielfalt spiegelt sich auch in den Perspektiven verschiedener Fachdisziplinen, wie z. B.
