Initial studies used the Bible as their main source of information and attempted to read it critically in order to learn about the religion of ancient Israel. With the advent of modern research in the Near East, more and more information on other Ancient Near Eastern religions was accumulated and initially used to illuminate Israelite religious practices as described in the Bible, but gradually led to challenging some of the accepted truisms. The new information was collected mainly through archaeological excavations, and archaeology had gradually become a major player in the study of ancient Israelite religion(s) and religious practices. The massive amount of information on the various subthemes related to Israelite religions, the shifting trends in scholarship, the multiplicity of approaches, and the interdisciplinary nature of the field means that no single scholar can master all the data today. Indeed, there is currently no comprehensive and updated book that covers all or even most aspects pertaining to Israelite religion(s). This volume is a partial attempt to fill some of this lacuna. The volume includes a number of broad, summarizing studies, presenting readers with the up-to-date state of the research on a number of important issues, from Solomon's temple to broader studies of the loci of cultic activity in ancient Israel through to analysis of the difference between the "official" and "popular" expression of religion, the place of women in Israelite cult(s), similarities and differences between the religious practices in Israel and Judah and those of other Iron Age religions, and the religion of some of Israel's neighbors to the role of zooarchaeology in the study of religion, ancient Israelite festivals, and more. 606 $aArchaeology$2bicssc 606 $aBiography and non-fiction prose$2bicssc 610 $aAegean-style 610 $aAmmon 610 $aAmmonite 610 $aancient Israel 610 $aanimal bones 610 $aarchaeology 610 $aarchaeology and religion 610 $aAsherah 610 $aAtaruz 610 $aBible 610 $abiblical archaeology 610 $ablessings 610 $aBusayrah 610 $acalendars 610 $aCanaan 610 $acult 610 $acult sites 610 $acultic buildings 610 $aDamiyah 610 $aDeir Alla 610 $adomestic religion 610 $aegalitarian ethos 610 $aEgypt 610 $afamily religion 610 $afaunal remains 610 $afeminist studies 610 $afigurines 610 $afirst produce rituals 610 $afirstborn rituals 610 $afolk religion 610 $afull-moon celebrations 610 $agods 610 $aharvest celebrations 610 $aHebrew Bible 610 $aHebrew inscriptions 610 $ahousehold 610 $ahousehold religion 610 $aiconography 610 $aIron Age 610 $aIsrael 610 $aIsraelite festivals 610 $aIsraelite religion 610 $aJerusalem Temple 610 $aJordan 610 $aJudah 610 $aKhirbet Qeiyafa 610 $aKuntillet ?Ajrud 610 $aLate Bronze Age 610 $amercy 610 $aMilkom 610 $amoon 610 $aMotza 610 $aMudayna Thamad 610 $aNear Eastern archaeology 610 $aoffering 610 $aOld Testament 610 $aPella 610 $aPhilistines 610 $apilgrimage festivals 610 $arain 610 $areligion 610 $aritual 610 $arituals 610 $aSabbath 610 $asacred feasting 610 $asacrifice 610 $asanctuaries 610 $ascribal curriculum 610 $ashrine model 610 $ashrines 610 $aSolomon's Temple 610 $asons of Ammon 610 $aTel Dan 610 $aTell el-Far'ah North 610 $atemples 610 $atheomachy 610 $atheophany 610 $aTransjordan 610 $awomb 610 $awomen 610 $aworship 610 $aWT-200 610 $aYahweh 610 $aYahwistic worship 610 $azooarchaeology 615 7$aArchaeology 615 7$aBiography and non-fiction prose 700 $aFaust$b Avraham$4edt$0612268 702 $aFaust$b Avraham$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557493103321 996 $aArchaeology and Ancient Israelite Religion$93022941 997 $aUNINA
