The objective of this book is to develop protocols for salinity and sodicity assessment and develop mitigation and adaptation measures to use saline and sodic soils sustainably. The focus is on important issues related to salinity and sodicity and to describe these in an easy and user friendly way. The information has been compiled from the latest published literature and from the authors? publications specific to the subject matter. The book consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the terms salinity and sodicity and describes various salinity classification systems commonly used around the world. Chapter 2 reviews global distribution of salinization and socioeconomic aspects related to salinity and crop production. Chapters 3 covers comprehensively salinity and sodicity adaptation and mitigation options including physical, chemical, hydrological and biological methods. Chapter 4 discusses the efforts that have been made to demonstrate the development of soil salinity zones under different irrigation systems. Chapter 5 discusses the quality of irrigation water, boron toxicity and relative tolerance to boron, the effects of chlorides on crops. Chapter 6 introduces the role of nuclear techniques in saline agriculture. 606 $aSoil science 606 $aWater 606 $aHydrology 606 $aAgriculture 606 $aBotany 606 $aEnvironmental management 606 $aSoil Science 606 $aWater 606 $aAgriculture 606 $aPlant Science 606 $aEnvironmental Management 615 0$aSoil science. 615 0$aWater. 615 0$aHydrology. 615 0$aAgriculture. 615 0$aBotany. 615 0$aEnvironmental management. 615 14$aSoil Science. 615 24$aWater. 615 24$aAgriculture. 615 24$aPlant Science. 615 24$aEnvironmental Management. 676 $a631.4 686 $aNAT011000$aSCI011000$aTEC003000$aTEC010000$aTEC010030$2bisacsh 700 $aZaman$b Mohammad$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0853405 702 $aShahid$b Shabbir A$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 702 $aHeng$b Lee$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299380903321 996 $aGuideline for Salinity Assessment, Mitigation and Adaptation Using Nuclear and Related Techniques$92037184 997 $aUNINA
