Among others, it requires societies to sustainably manage forests, halt and reverse land degradation, combat desertification, and halt biodiversity loss. Despite the fact that protection of terrestrial ecosystems is on the rise worldwide and forest loss has slowed, the recent IPBES report concluded that ?nature is declining globally at rates unprecedented in human history?. Consequently, the United Nations General Assembly recently declared 2021?2030 the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. There is no doubt that the current global responses are far from sufficient and significant transformative changes of societies are needed to restore and protect nature and ecosystems. Transitioning to Sustainable Life on Land presents reviews, original research, and practical experiences from different disciplines with a focus on: theoretical and empirical reflection about the necessary transformation of values, institutions, markets, firms and policies, reviews and research on protection, restoration and sustainable use of diverse terrestrial ecosystems, analyses and reporting of encouraging local, regional, national, and global initiatives. Transitioning to Sustainable Life on Land is part of MDPI's new Open Access book series Transitioning to Sustainability. With this series, MDPI pursues environmentally and socially relevant research which contributes to efforts toward a sustainable world. Transitioning to Sustainability aims to add to the conversation about regional and global sustainable development according to the 17 SDGs. Set to be published in 2020/2021, the book series is intended to reach beyond disciplinary, even academic boundaries. 410 0$aTransitioning to Sustainability Series 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 606 $aBiology, life sciences$2bicssc 606 $aTechnology, engineering, agriculture$2bicssc 610 $abiodiversity 610 $aeconomics and governance 610 $avaluation and ethics 610 $ajustice and sufficiency 610 $azero net loss 610 $acultivated landscapes 610 $aecosystem restoration 610 $aconservation agriculture 610 $aagroforestry 610 $apeatland 610 $aland consolidation 610 $aland tenure 610 $aland ownership 615 7$aResearch & information: general 615 7$aBiology, life sciences 615 7$aTechnology, engineering, agriculture 700 $aBeckmann$b Volker$01325370 701 $aTisdell$b Clement$0638584 701 $aOtt$b Konrad$01289811 701 $aReinmuth$b Karl Christoph$01787596 701 $aZiegler$b Rafael$01817411 701 $aHampicke$b Ulrich$01817412 701 $aZerbe$b Stefan$01245868 701 $aThevs$b Niels$01817413 701 $aEwert$b Stefan$01817414 701 $aAbel$b Susanne$01817415 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557421603321 996 $aTransitioning to Sustainable Life on Land$94375182 997 $aUNINA
