Given its early settlement and some of the liberties taken with legal procedure there - as well as some creative interpretations of English law - the region is ripe for close study in the legal history field. This new collection examines that history on 'two islands:' Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.The essays examine legal themes, developments, and disputes, and offer a framework for comparing ways of administering justice through the courts in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The cases examined are particularly interesting for the light they throw on legal process and, especially, on the motives of the parties. Unlike in contemporary England and Upper Canada, the English precedents gave way to local needs as equitable regimes emerged that put family and community interests first, and treated all members of the family in ways tailored to their personal needs and circumstances.This volume, which includes a number of essays examining women's legal status and access to the courts, is a comprehensive and fascinating examination of legal history in two Canadian provinces. 410 0$aOsgoode Society for Canadian Legal History series. 606 $aLaw$zCanada$xHistory 606 $aLaw$zNewfoundland and Labrador$xHistory 606 $aLaw$zPrince Edward Island$xHistory 606 $aLAW / Legal History$2bisacsh 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aLaw$xHistory. 615 0$aLaw$xHistory. 615 0$aLaw$xHistory. 615 7$aLAW / Legal History. 676 $a941.085092 702 $aEnglish$b Christopher 712 02$aOsgoode Society for Canadian Legal History. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910459743703321 996 $aEssays in the history of Canadian law$92036813 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02135nam0 22003611i 450 001 UON00234778 005 20231205103519.342 010 $a97-355-5367-8 100 $a20030730d2002 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita$aRUM 102 $aRO 105 $a|||| ||||| 200 1 $aStudi linguistici sull'aromeno$fGheorghe Carageani 210 $aCluj$cClusium$d2002 215 $a244 p.$d20 cm. 316 $aMinimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02$5IT-UONSI ROMENOA 316 $aMinimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02$5IT-UONSI ROMENOA 316 $aMinimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02$5IT-UONSI ROMENOA 316 $aMinimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02$5IT-UONSI ROMENOA 316 $aMinimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02$5IT-UONSI ROMENOD/0020 606 $aLINGUA AROMENA$3UONC074160$2FI 620 $dCluj$3UONL002646 700 1$aCARAGEANI$bGheorghe$3UONV111474$0685130 712 $aClusium$3UONV270957$4650 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20240220$gRICA 912 $aUON00234778 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ROMENO A $eSI EO 34117 5 Minimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ROMENO A $eSI EO 34118 5 Minimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ROMENO A $eSI EO 34119 5 Minimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ROMENO A $eSI EO 34120 5 Minimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI ROMENO D 0020 $eSI EO 34116 5 0020 Minimo Import Export fatt. n. 0449751/02 996 $aStudi linguistici sull'aromeno$91232236 997 $aUNIOR
