For both economists and policymakers, this volume makes a valuable contribution to current research on pensions and the economics of the elderly. The contributors report on retirement saving of individuals and the saving that results from corporate funding of pension plans, and they examine particular aspects of the plans themselves from the employee's point of view. Steven F. Venti and David A. Wise offer a careful analysis of who contributes to IRAs and why. Benjamin M. Friedman and Mark Warshawsky look at the reasons more retirement saving is not used to purchase annuities. Personal saving through pension contribution is discussed by B. Douglas Bernheim and John B. Shoven in the context of recent government and corporate pension funding changes. Michael J. Boskin and John B. Shoven analyze indicators of the economic well-being of the elderly, addressing the problem of why a large fraction of the elderly remain poor despite a general improvement in the economic status of the group as a whole. The relative merits of defined contribution versus defined benefit plans, with emphasis on the risk aspects of the two types of plans for the individual, are examined by Zvi Bodie, Alan J. Marcus, and Robert C. Merton. In the final paper, pension plans and worker turnover are the focus of the discussion by Edward P. Lazear and Robert L. Moore, who propose pension option value rather than the commonly used accrued pension wealth as a measure of pension value. 410 0$aNational Bureau of Economic Research project report. 606 $aPension trusts$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aIndividual retirement accounts$zUnited States$vCongresses 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPension trusts 615 0$aIndividual retirement accounts 676 $a331.2520973 701 $aBodie$b Zvi$0116594 701 $aShoven$b John B$088721 701 $aWise$b David A$0124389 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910451122303321 996 $aPensions in the U.S. economy$91940956 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01342nam0 22003251i 450 001 UON00230937 005 20250910105637.203 100 $a20030730d1977 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aˆIl ‰lavoro intellettuale come professione$edue saggi$fMax Weber$gnota introduttiva di Delio Cantimori$gtraduzione di Antonio Giolitti 205 $a2. ed 210 $aTorino$cEinaudi$d1977 215 $aXLII, 121 p.$d19 cm 410 1$1001UON00171664$12001 $aEinaudi Tascabili $1210 $aTorino$cEinaudi$v19 500 1$3UON00372014$a Politik als Beruf, Wissenschaft als Beruf$918301 606 $aLavoro intellettuale$3UONC036788$2FI 620 $aIT$dTorino$3UONL000014 676 $a305.553$cClassi sociali.
