The analysis of the cultural transfer between the Ottoman Empire and the United States of America undertaken in this study focuses on four relevant protagonists, whose contributions have not yet been sufficiently explored in missiological studies: The missionaries Eli Smith and Cornelius Van Dyck as well as the Syrian Protestants Butrus al-Bustani and John Wortabet. As a result, the Syria Mission of the ABCFM demonstrates how two different cultures met in a so called contact zone in the mission field and how these dialogue partners, despite many conflicts and disagreements, succeeded in contributing towards a fruitful dialogue. 606 $aMissionaries$zSyria$xHistory 606 $aChristianity 610 $aMission 610 $aMiddle East 610 $aSyria 610 $aLebanon 610 $aUSA 610 $aOttoman Empire 610 $atranscultural dialogue 610 $aEli Smith 610 $aCornelius Van Dyck 610 $aButrus al-Bustani 610 $aJohn Wortabet 610 $aNaher Osten 610 $aSyrien 610 $aLibanon 610 $aOsmanisches Reich 610 $atranskultureller Dialog 610 $aAmerican Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions 610 $aAnthony van Dyck 610 $aArabic 610 $aBeirut 610 $aProtestantism 615 0$aMissionaries$xHistory. 615 0$aChristianity. 676 $a230 700 $aZeuge-Buberl$b Uta$0952362 702 $aJanik$b Elizabeth 801 2$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910165177903321 996 $aThe mission of the American Board in Syria$92292553 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01191nam2 22002891i 450 001 UON00193758 005 20231205103225.619 010 $a34-87051-61-3 100 $a20030730d1975 |0itac50 ba 101 $aeng 102 $aDE 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aˆ1.: ‰Essays, 1776$fJames Beattie 205 $aHildesheim$gNew York : G.
