Kochan, and Alexander J. S. Colvin give us the first textbook to focus on the workplace outcomes of the production of goods and services in emerging countries. In Labor Relations in a Globalizing World, they draw lessons from the United States and other advanced industrial countries to provide a menu of options for management, labor, and government leaders in emerging countries. They include discussions based in countries such as China, Brazil, India, and South Africa which, given the advanced levels of economic development they have already achieved, are often described as "transitional," because the labor relations practices and procedures used in those countries are still in a state of flux. Katz, Kochan, and Colvin analyze how labor relations functions in emerging countries in a manner that is useful to practitioners, policymakers, and academics. They take account of the fact that labor relations are much more politicized in emerging countries than in advanced industrialized countries. They also address the traditional role played by state-dominated unions in emerging countries and the recent increased importance of independent unions that have emerged as alternatives. These independent unions tend to promote firm- or workplace-level collective bargaining in contrast to the more traditional top-down systems. Katz, Kochan, and Colvin explain how multinational corporations, nongovernmental organizations, and other groups that act across national borders increasingly influence work and employment outcomes. 606 $aIndustrial relations$zDeveloping countries 606 $aComparative industrial relations 606 $aLabor and globalization 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aIndustrial relations 615 0$aComparative industrial relations. 615 0$aLabor and globalization. 676 $a331.09172/4 700 $aKatz$b Harry Charles$f1951-$0621665 702 $aKochan$b Thomas A. 702 $aColvin$b Alexander James 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910459723503321 996 $aLabor relations in a globalizing world$92473770 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00831nam0 22002171i 450 001 UON00187857 005 20231205103201.577 100 $a20030730d1978 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| ||||| 200 1 $aEconomisti a confronto$el'economia ortodossa e la critica radicale$fDavid Mermelstein$ga cura di Antonio Pedalino 210 $aNapoli$cLiguori$d1978. 307 p. ; 22 cm. 700 1$aMERMELSTEIN$bDavid$3UONV109451$00 702 1$aPedalino$bAntonio$3UONV100117 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20250425$gRICA 899 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$2UONSI 912 $aUON00187857 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO$dSI D 0074 $eSI SPS5133 5 0074 996 $aEconomics$945816 997 $aUNIOR
