Contributions address the problematic issues of cognitive archaeology, consumer research, literary theory and themes addressing both philosophical history and the history of reception of ideas and practice. The contributions seek both to close the critical gaps with respect to weaving, a broad and complex field in the area of ancient cultural techniques, and to identify new themes. Accordingly, the submissions expand our focus into late antiquity, to integrate texts such as letters written on Papyrus detailing the everyday correspondence of an Egyptian family or to spotlight the meaning of textile terms and the history of misunderstandings associated therein. Frequently overused analogies between writing and weaving are also examined in terms of their legitimacy as well as their limits. The papers presented here result from an international and interdisciplinary conference under the same title held in Castelen, near Basel in 2012"--Provided by publisher. 606 $aTextile fabrics, Ancient$vCongresses 606 $aTextile fabrics, Ancient$xResearch$vCongresses 606 $aTextile industry$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aWeaving$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aTextile fabrics, Ancient$xSocial aspects$vCongresses 606 $aManuscripts$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 606 $aWriting$xHistory$yTo 1500$vCongresses 615 0$aTextile fabrics, Ancient 615 0$aTextile fabrics, Ancient$xResearch 615 0$aTextile industry$xHistory 615 0$aWeaving$xHistory 615 0$aTextile fabrics, Ancient$xSocial aspects 615 0$aManuscripts$xHistory 615 0$aWriting$xHistory 676 $a677.009 702 $aHarich-Schwarzbauer$b Henriette 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910820658803321 996 $aWeben und Gewebe in der Antike$93983742 997 $aUNINA
