Idan Landau argues that control complements divide into two types: In attitude contexts, control is established by logophoric anchoring, while non-attitude contexts it boils down to predication. The distinction is also syntactically represented: Logophoric complements are constructed as a second tier above predicative complements. The theory derives the obligatory de se reading of PRO as a special kind of de re attitude without ascribing any inherent feature to PRO. At the same time, it provides a principled explanation, based on feature transmission, for the agreement properties of PRO, which are stipulated on competing semantic accounts. Finally, it derives a striking universal asymmetry: the fact that agreement on the embedded verb blocks control in attitude contexts but not in non-attitude contexts. This book is unique in being firmly grounded in both the formal semantic and the syntactic studies of control, offering an integrated view that will appeal to scholars in both areas. By bringing to bear current sophisticated grammatical analyses, it offers new insights into the classical problems of control theory"--MIT CogNet. 410 0$aLinguistic inquiry monographs ;$v71. 606 $aControl (Linguistics) 606 $aGrammar, Comparative and general$xVerb phrases 606 $aGrammar, Comparative and general$xSentence particles 610 $aLINGUISTICS & LANGUAGE/General 615 0$aControl (Linguistics) 615 0$aGrammar, Comparative and general$xVerb phrases. 615 0$aGrammar, Comparative and general$xSentence particles. 676 $a415 700 $aLandau$b Idan$01530562 801 0$bOCoLC-P 801 1$bOCoLC-P 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910797154703321 996 $aA two-tiered theory of control$93853791 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01416nam0 22003011i 450 001 UON00025059 005 20231205102036.540 010 $a88-238-0294-6 100 $a20020107d1995 |0itac50 ba 101 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aˆL'‰economia giapponese$fTakatoshi Ito. - Milano$eEGEA, 1995 210 $a251 p.$a21 cm 316 $aEsemplare in fotocopia$5IT-UONSI GIAXII/176 BIS N 500 1$3UON00354305$aˆThe ‰Japanese Economy / Takatoshi Ito$932308 606 $aEconomia industriale$xGiappone$3UONC002849$2FI 620 $aIT$dMilano$3UONL000005 686 $aGIA XII$cGIAPPONE - ECONOMIA$2A 700 0$aIt?
