Exhibiting - often in spectacular fashion - the remarkable resources of the Hollywood studios, musicals came to epitomise the very idea of 'light entertainment'. Films like Top Hat and 42nd Street, Meet Me in St. Louis and On the Town, Singin' in the Rain and Oklahoma!, West Side Story and The Sound of Music were hugely popular, yet were commonly regarded by cultural commentators as trivial and escapist. It was the 1970s before serious study of the Hollywood musical began to change critical attitudes and foster an interest in musical films produced in other cultures. Hollywood musicals have become less common, but the genre persists and both academic interest in and fond nostalgia for the musical shows no signs of abating. 100 Film Musicals provides a stimulating overview of the genre's development, its major themes and the critical debates it has provoked. While centred on the dominant Hollywood tradition, 100 Film Musicals includes films from countries that often tried to emulate the Hollywood style, like Britain and Germany, as well as from very different cultures like India, Egypt and Japan. Jim Hillier and Douglas Pye also discuss post-1960s films from many different sources which adapt and reflect on the conventions of the genre, including recent examples such as Moulin Rouge! and High School Musical, demonstrating that the genre is still very much alive. 410 0$aBFI screen guides. 517 3 $aOne hundred film musicals 517 3 $aHundred film musicals 606 $aMusical films 606 $aMusical films$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01030715 606 $aFilm & Media 606 $aFilms, cinema$2bic 615 0$aMusical films. 615 7$aMusical films. 615 4$aFilm & Media. 615 7$aFilms, cinema. 676 $a792.6 686 $a9,2$2ssgn 686 $aLR 54130$2rvk 700 $aHillier$b Jim$01957810 702 $aPye$b Douglas 801 0$bUkLoBP 801 1$bUkLoBP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911093633003321 996 $a100 film musicals$94718128 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03229nam 2200817z- 450 001 9911114775503321 005 20231214133221.0 010 $a9789610503385 010 $a9610503381 035 $a(CKB)5400000000048506 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/80394 035 $a(EXLCZ)995400000000048506 100 $a20202204d2012 |y 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aSupernatural beings from Slovenian myth and folktales /$fMonika Kropej ; [translated by Nives Sulic? Over 150 supernatural beings are presented, both lexically and according to the role that they have in Slovenian folklore. They are classified by type, characteristic, features, and by the message conveyed in their motifs and contents. The material has been analysed in the context of European and some non-European mythological concepts, and the author deals with theory and interpretations as well as the conclusions of domestic and foreign researchers. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book. 606 $aSlovenia$2bicssc 606 $aFolklore, myths & legends$2bicssc 610 $acynocephalus 610 $ademons 610 $aelves 610 $afabulous creatures 610 $afolk literature 610 $afolklore research 610 $aKing Matja? 610 $aliterary folklore 610 $amythology 610 $aPehtra Baba 610 $aSloveneian folk fairy tales 610 $aSlovenian folk tradition 610 $aSlovenian mythological heroes 610 $aSlovenian mythology 610 $aSlovenian myths 610 $asupernatural beings 610 $aWater Sprite 610 $aZeleni Jurij 610 $aZlatorog 610 $abajeslovna bitja 610 $ademoni 610 $afolkloristika 610 $aKralj Matja? 610 $aljudsko slovstvo 610 $amitologija 610 $anadnaravna bitja 610 $apasjeglavci 610 $aPehtra baba 610 $apovodni mo? 610 $a?krati 610 $aslovenska mitologija 610 $aslovenske ljudske pravljice 610 $aslovenski miti 610 $aslovenski mitolo?ki junaki 610 $aslovensko ljudsko izro?ilo 610 $aslovstvena folklora 615 7$aSlovenia 615 7$aFolklore, myths & legends 700 $aKropej Telban$b Monika$f1956-$01243679 701 2$aKropej Telban$b Monika$f1956-$01243679 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911114775503321 996 $aSupernatural beings from Slovenian myth and folktales$94793590 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02295nam 22005774a 450 001 9911145796603321 005 20251117063227.0 010 $a9781589016057 010 $a158901605X 010 $a9781589016064 010 $a1589016068 035 $a(CKB)1000000000786355 035 $a(EBL)449338 035 $a(OCoLC)638859217 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000224553 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11173427 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000224553 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10210675 035 $a(PQKB)10703704 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC449338 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse3282 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL449338 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10314003 035 $a(Perlego)949499 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000786355 100 $a20080806d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aPopulations, public health, and the law /$fWendy E.
