This book provides an evaluation of the soundness of the methodology used by the NCI study to estimate: Past radiation doses. Possible health consequences of exposure to iodine-131. Implications for clinical practice. Possible public health strategies--such as systematic screening for thyroid cancer--to respond to the exposures. In addition, the book provides an evaluation of the NCI estimates of the number of thyroid cancers that might result from the nuclear testing program and provides guidance on approaches the U.S. government might use to communicate with the public about Iodine-131 exposures and health risks. 606 $aIonizing radiation$xDosage 606 $aIodine$xIsotopes$xToxicology$zUnited States 606 $aNuclear weapons testing victims$xHealth risk assessment$zUnited States 606 $aThyroid gland$xCancer$zUnited States$xEpidemiology 606 $aRadiation carcinogenesis$zUnited States 606 $aIodine in the body 606 $aRadiation, Background$xHealth aspects 606 $aRadiation Protection 606 $aRadiation, Ionizing 606 $aIodine Radioisotopes 606 $aLegislation as Topic 606 $aRadiation Dosage 606 $aRadioactive Pollutants 607 $aNevada National Security Site (Nev.) 607 $aUnited States 615 0$aIonizing radiation$xDosage. 615 0$aIodine$xIsotopes$xToxicology 615 0$aNuclear weapons testing victims$xHealth risk assessment 615 0$aThyroid gland$xCancer$xEpidemiology. 615 0$aRadiation carcinogenesis 615 0$aIodine in the body. 615 0$aRadiation, Background$xHealth aspects. 615 12$aRadiation Protection. 615 22$aRadiation, Ionizing. 615 22$aIodine Radioisotopes. 615 22$aLegislation as Topic. 615 22$aRadiation Dosage. 615 22$aRadioactive Pollutants. 676 $a362.1/969897/00973 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bCommittee on Thyroid Screening Related to I-131 Exposure. 712 02$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$bCommittee on Exposure of the American People to I-131 from the Nevada Atomic Bomb Tests. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911107720103321 996 $aExposure of the American people to Iodine-131 from Nevada nuclear-bomb tests$94748650 997 $aUNINA
