It provides readings of Southeast Asian literatures in a comparative context, demonstrating how such readings enable texts to engage with issues connected to postcolonial nation-building across the region. Such issues include social exclusion, urbanization and environmental destruction, post-war traumas, animal narratives, migration, identity, gender, and literature, and politics. In doing so, this book moves beyond traditional comparative literature which is overwhelmingly rooted in Western literature and scholarship. To this end, it an invitation to decolonize comparative literature as a discipline. Few studies have attempted to examine the alternative non-western literary traditions that emerge from this specific Asian region, and so this book presents a rich combination of theoretical and critical studies that contribute to advancing the discipline of comparative literature in Southeast Asian geographies. It is relevant to scholars working in Asian literature, comparative literature, and in postcolonial frameworks in philosophy and cultural studies. 410 0$aAsia in Transition,$x2364-8260 ;$v30 606 $aOriental literature 606 $aComparative literature 606 $aPhilosophy 606 $aPostcolonialism 606 $aLiterature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aEthnology$zAsia 606 $aCulture 606 $aTranslating and interpreting 606 $aAsian Literature 606 $aComparative Literature 606 $aPostcolonial Philosophy 606 $aLiterary Criticism 606 $aAsian Culture 606 $aLanguage Translation 615 0$aOriental literature. 615 0$aComparative literature. 615 0$aPhilosophy. 615 0$aPostcolonialism. 615 0$aLiterature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aEthnology 615 0$aCulture. 615 0$aTranslating and interpreting. 615 14$aAsian Literature. 615 24$aComparative Literature. 615 24$aPostcolonial Philosophy. 615 24$aLiterary Criticism. 615 24$aAsian Culture. 615 24$aLanguage Translation. 676 $a809.895 700 $aPham$b Chi P$01372610 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911047798703321 996 $aDecolonizing Comparative Literature$94471198 997 $aUNINA
