This book explores the historical, literary and philosophical origins of the changes in our attitude to nature that allowed environmental catastrophes to happen. It presents a philosophical reflection on human societies' attitude to the environment, informed by the history of the concept of landscape and the role played by the concept of nature in the human imagination and features a wealth of examples from around the world to help understand the contemporary environmental crisis in the context of both the built and natural environment. Thinking Through Landscape locates the start of this change in human labour and urban elites being cut off from nature. Nature became an imaginary construct masking our real interaction with the natural world. The book argues that this gave rise to a theoretical and literary appreciation of landscape at the expense of an effective practical engagement with nature. It draws on Heideggerian ontology and Veblen's sociology, providing a powerful distinction between two attitudes to landscape: the tacit knowledge of earlier peoples engaged in creating the landscape through their work - "landscaping thought"- and the explicit theoretical and aesthetic attitudes of modern city dwellers who love nature while belonging to a civilization that destroys the landscape - "landscape thinking". This book gives a critical survey of landscape thought and theory for students, researchers and anyone interested in human societies' relation to nature in the fields of landscape studies, environmental philosophy, cultural geography and environmental history"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aLandscapes 606 $aNature (Aesthetics) 615 0$aLandscapes. 615 0$aNature (Aesthetics) 676 $a333.701 700 $aBerque$b Augustin.$0130256 701 $aFeenberg-Dibon$b Anne-Marie$f1943-$01802066 701 $aBerque$b Augustin$0130256 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910967611103321 996 $aThinking through landscape$94347595 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03972nam 2200697Ia 450 001 9910962713103321 005 20251117083817.0 010 $a1-280-49618-5 010 $a9786613591418 010 $a90-04-22654-0 024 7 $a10.1163/9789004226548 035 $a(CKB)2670000000193806 035 $a(EBL)919598 035 $a(OCoLC)794328565 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000662555 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11409564 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000662555 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10722009 035 $a(PQKB)11088423 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC919598 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789004226548 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL919598 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10562459 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL359141 035 $a(PPN)170736423 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000193806 100 $a20120427d2012 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aGreco-Roman culture and the New Testament $estudies commemorating the centennial of the Pontifical Biblical Institute /$fedited by David E. This book contains nine essays by scholars from Europe, the United States, Australia and Jerusalem, each exploring the ways in which aspects of the New Testament can be illuminated by recourse to Greco-Roman texts. 410 0$aSupplements to Novum Testamentum ;$vv. 143. 517 3 $aGraeco-Roman culture and the New Testament 606 $aChristianity and culture$xHistory$yEarly church, ca. 30-600 606 $aChristian literature, Early$xHistory and criticism 606 $aCivilization, Greco-Roman 615 0$aChristianity and culture$xHistory 615 0$aChristian literature, Early$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aCivilization, Greco-Roman. 676 $a225.6/7 701 $aAune$b David E$g(David Edward)$0181405 701 $aBrenk$b Frederick E$0183704 712 02$aPontificio Istituto biblico. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910962713103321 996 $aGreco-Roman culture and the New Testament$94467792 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02813oas 2201153 a 450 001 9911035153803321 005 20251106213014.0 011 $a3067-834X 035 $a(OCoLC)569508573 035 $a(CONSER) 2025202350 035 $a(CKB)38720033900041 035 $a(EXLCZ)9938720033900041 100 $a20100325a19599999 uy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||||abp 135 $aurbn||||||ada 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aJournal of glass studies 210 1$aCorning, N.Y. :$cCorning Museum of Glass,$d[1959]- 215 $a1 online resource 311 08$aPrint version, -2023: Journal of glass studies (DLC) 59012390 (OCoLC)1605749 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 517 1 $aJ. glass stud 531 0 $aJ. glass stud. 606 $aGlassware$vPeriodicals 606 $aGlass manufacture$vPeriodicals 606 $aGlassware$xHistory$vPeriodicals 606 $aVerrerie$xHistoire$vPe?riodiques 606 $aVerrerie$vPe?riodiques 606 $aVerre$xFabrication$vPe?riodiques 606 $aGlass manufacture$2fast 606 $aGlassware$2fast 606 $aGeschichte$2gnd 606 $aGlas$2gnd 606 $aZeitschrift$2gnd 608 $aPeriodical. 608 $aperiodicals.$2aat 608 $aHistory$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2lcgft 608 $aPe?riodiques.$2rvmgf 615 0$aGlassware 615 0$aGlass manufacture 615 0$aGlassware$xHistory 615 6$aVerrerie$xHistoire 615 6$aVerrerie 615 6$aVerre$xFabrication 615 7$aGlass manufacture 615 7$aGlassware 615 7$aGeschichte 615 7$aGlas 615 7$aZeitschrift. 676 $a748.2058 712 02$aCorning Museum of Glass, 801 0$bOCLCE 801 1$bOCLCE 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bTEF 801 2$bTXA 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bHNK 801 2$bNZAUC 801 2$bVT2 801 2$bUAB 801 2$bZ5A 801 2$bRCE 801 2$bU3W 801 2$bUOK 801 2$bWYU 801 2$bLND 801 2$bZ5U 801 2$bAU@ 801 2$bQAQMA 801 2$bGH1 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bUKSSU 801 2$bUK7LJ 801 2$bHS0 801 2$bSXB 801 2$bLUN 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bSYB 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bOCLCQ 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9911035153803321 996 $aJournal of glass studies$9649947 997 $aUNINA
