In the first volume, Jonathan Gruber and David A. Wise revealed enormous disincentives to continued work at older ages in developed countries. Provisions of many social security programs typically encourage retirement by reducing pay for work, inducing older employees to leave the labor force early and magnifying the financial burden caused by an aging population. At a certain age there is simply no financial benefit to continuing to work. In this volume, the authors turn to a country-by-country analysis of retirement behavior based on micro-data. The result of research compiled by teams in twelve countries, the volume shows an almost uniform correlation between levels of social security incentives and retirement behavior in each country. The estimates also show that the effect is strikingly uniform in countries with very different cultural histories, labor market institutions, and other social characteristics. 410 0$aNational Bureau of Economic Research conference report. 606 $aSocial security 606 $aRetirement$xEconomic aspects 606 $aRetirement income 606 $aOlder people$xEmployment 615 0$aSocial security. 615 0$aRetirement$xEconomic aspects. 615 0$aRetirement income. 615 0$aOlder people$xEmployment. 676 $a368.4/3 701 $aGruber$b Jonathan$0145559 701 $aWise$b David A$0124389 712 02$aNational Bureau of Economic Research. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910971163103321 996 $aSocial security programs and retirement around the world$94354889 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02622nam 2200721k 450 001 9911026042303321 005 20250204191034.0 010 $a9781350208711 010 $a135020871X 010 $a9781786829931 010 $a1786829932 024 7 $a10.5040/9781350208711.00000003 035 $a(CKB)4940000000148317 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5983150 035 $a(OCoLC)1129194551 035 $a(UkLoBP)CDCBOB9781350208711 035 $a(UkLoBP)BP9781350208711DO 035 $a(Perlego)1811926 035 $a(EXLCZ)994940000000148317 100 $a20210501d2019 uy d 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aRed dust road /$fby Tanika Gupta ; adapted from the memoir by Jackie Kay 210 1$aLondon :$cOberon Books :$cBloomsbury Publishing,$d2019. 215 $a1 online resource (101 pages) 225 1 $aOberon modern plays 311 08$a9781786829924 311 08$a1786829924 330 $aGrowing up in 70s Scotland as the adopted mixed raced child of a Communist couple, young Jackie blossoms into an outspoken, talented poet.
