The products produced in the mode of poiesis are 'digressive' in that they operate off track; they resist the main stream of every day prose. They do so for various reasons and in various respects. Mostly, they are explained historically, relative to historical contexts and, that is, contrary to what they are meant to resist. Instead, this book investigates the modes of resistance, their epistemology of production, in short, the logic of digression. The method addresses the singular exemplarity of art and literature; it elucidates the impact of poiesis as an epistemological challenge and redefines the analysis of literature and art as branches of an Historical Epistemology. Proceeding from the state of affairs in 20th century criticism and aesthetics (Benjamin, Adorno, Blumenberg, Merleau-Ponty), the epistemology of representation (Whitehead, Canguilhem, Bachelard, Rheinberger) is revised in, and with respect to critical consequences (Derrida, Marin, de Man, Agamben). From literary criticism and critical legal studies to the scenario of the life sciences, the essays collected here redirect the logic of research towards the epistemological grounds of an aesthetics underneath the hermeneutics of every day life. 606 $aSociolinguistics 606 $aPsycholinguistics 610 $aEmergence, memory. 610 $ahyper-reflexivity. 610 $aiconic difference. 610 $alatent vs. manifest. 615 0$aSociolinguistics. 615 0$aPsycholinguistics. 676 $a306.44 700 $aHaverkamp$b Anselm$0184579 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910817919403321 996 $aProductive digression$93962365 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04137nam 22005655 450 001 9911022156003321 005 20250826130207.0 010 $a9783031999215$b(electronic bk.) 010 $z9783031999208 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-99921-5 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC32272980 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL32272980 035 $a(CKB)40426711700041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-99921-5 035 $a(EXLCZ)9940426711700041 100 $a20250826d2025 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCapitalism, State Power, and the Production of Extremism /$fby Tahir Abbas 205 $a1st ed. 2025. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer Nature Switzerland :$cImprint: Springer,$d2025. 215 $a1 online resource (124 pages) 225 1 $aSpringerBriefs in Sociology,$x2212-6376 311 08$aPrint version: Abbas, Tahir Capitalism, State Power, and the Production of Extremism Cham : Springer,c2025 9783031999208 327 $aIntroduction: Towards a Marxist Theory of Radicalisation -- Capitalism and the Production of Inequality: Laying the Groundwork for Radicalisation -- The State, Counterterrorism, and the Reproduction of Inequality -- Global Capitalism and the Rise of Transnational Radicalisation -- Intersectionality and Radicalisation: Class, Race, and Religion -- Case Study: Economic Deprivation and the Rise of Islamist Extremism -- Case Study: Social Alienation and the Far-Right Resurgence -- Critique of Liberal Approaches to Countering Violent Extremism.Beyond Capitalism: Imagining Alternative Futures -- Towards a More Just and Peaceful World. 330 $aThis book develops a comprehensive Marxist theory of radicalisation by synthesising and extending the author?s two decades of research in this area. The central argument of this book is that radicalisation cannot be fully understood without examining capitalism?s role in creating and exacerbating the social, economic, and political conditions that give rise to it. It contends that radicalisation is fundamentally a product of the contradictions inherent in the capitalist mode of production, particularly in its neoliberal phase; that the intensification of exploitation, alienation, and social atomisation under neoliberal capitalism creates the structural conditions for various forms of radicalisation; that state responses to radicalisation, rooted in the logic of capital and often employing repressive measures, tend to reproduce and amplify the very conditions they seek to address; and that processes of radicalisation are shaped by the complicated relationship among global capitalist dynamics and local social, cultural, and political contexts. Therefore, effective approaches to countering radicalisation must address root causes by challenging the fundamental structures of capitalist society. In systematically situating contributions within a broader Marxist framework, the book offers a novel and timely intervention in the field of radicalisation studies. It provides scholars, students, and practitioners with a powerful framework for understanding and addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time and not only advances academic debates but also contributes to broader struggles for social justice and equality. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Sociology,$x2212-6376 606 $aPolitical sociology 606 $aMarxian school of sociology 606 $aPolitical science$xPhilosophy 606 $aPolitical Sociology 606 $aMarxist Sociology 606 $aPolitical Philosophy 615 0$aPolitical sociology. 615 0$aMarxian school of sociology. 615 0$aPolitical science$xPhilosophy. 615 14$aPolitical Sociology. 615 24$aMarxist Sociology. 615 24$aPolitical Philosophy. 676 $a306.2 700 $aAbbas$b Tahir$0707053 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 912 $a9911022156003321 996 $aCapitalism, State Power, and the Production of Extremism$94429425 997 $aUNINA
