Exploring the political and philosophical roots of a number of recent leftist civil movements, Petrovi? Lotina forcefully argues for a re-imagining of artistic performance as an instrument of democracy capable of contesting a dominant politics. Inspired by post-Marxist theories of discourse theory, hegemony, conflict, and pluralism, and using tension as a guiding philosophical, political, and artistic force, the book expands the politico-philosophical debate on theories of performance. It offers both scholars and practitioners of performance a thought-provoking analysis of the ways in which artistic performance can be viewed politically as 'agonistic choreo-political practice,' a powerful strategy for mobilising alternative ways of living together and invigorating democracy. Choreographing Agonism makes a bold and innovative contribution to the discussion of political and philosophical thought in the field of Performance Studies. Born in Yugoslavia, Goran Petrovi? Lotina is an author, scholar, and curator who has published widely on the interplay between art, politics, and theory. Prior to obtaining his PhD at the University of Ghent, he studied at Sciences Po Paris and at the University of Belgrade. Currently, he is Research Fellow at the University of Warwick and Lecturer at Sciences Po Paris. Petrovi? Lotina is Founder and Co-curator of Fogo Island Film, an international film program held in Newfoundland, Canada, and is a member of l'Association internationale des critiques d'art. 606 $aPerforming arts 606 $aTheater 606 $aDance 606 $aPolitical science$xPhilosophy 606 $aCulture$xStudy and teaching 606 $aTheatre and Performance Arts 606 $aDance 606 $aPolitical Philosophy 606 $aCultural Studies 615 0$aPerforming arts. 615 0$aTheater. 615 0$aDance. 615 0$aPolitical science$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aCulture$xStudy and teaching. 615 14$aTheatre and Performance Arts. 615 24$aDance. 615 24$aPolitical Philosophy. 615 24$aCultural Studies. 676 $a792 676 $a306.484 700 $aPetrovic?-Lotin$b Goran$01250377 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910502593703321 996 $aChoreographing agonism$92897477 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05045nam 22006975 450 001 9911020416703321 005 20250807130618.0 010 $a9783031851988$b(electronic bk.) 010 $z9783031851971 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-85198-8 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC32256193 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL32256193 035 $a(CKB)40138065800041 035 $a(OCoLC)1532829385 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-85198-8 035 $a(EXLCZ)9940138065800041 100 $a20250807d2025 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aBBC Women Reporting the World $eConversations with Foreign Correspondents /$fby Colleen Murrell 205 $a1st ed. 2025. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer Nature Switzerland :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2025. 215 $a1 online resource (241 pages) 311 08$aPrint version: Murrell, Colleen BBC Women Reporting the World Cham : Palgrave Macmillan,c2025 9783031851971 327 $aPreface: The Monstrous Regiment -- Introduction: The BBC's employment of women correspondents throughout the years -- Chapter 1: Kate Adie, CBE, BBC Chief News Correspondent -- Chapter 2: Diana Goodman, Correspondent in Bonn, East Germany and Moscow 1986-2000 -- Chapter 3: Elizabeth Blunt, MBE, West Africa Correspondent 1986-1990, India TV producer 1993-1994, Ethiopia Stringer 2007-2009 -- Chapter 4: Lyse Doucet, CM, OBE, Chief International Correspondent -- Chapter 5: Orla Guerin, Senior International Correspondent based in Istanbul -- Chapter 6: Carrie Gracie -- Chapter 7: Sara Beck -- Chapter 8: Caroline Wyatt -- Chapter 9: Sara Rainsford -- Chapter 10: Shaimaa Khalil. 330 $aThis book explores the changing experiences and roles of the BBC's female journalists. Featuring original interview content, the book focuses on the careers of female foreign correspondents, from Kate Adie to Shaimaa Khalil. It begins by examining the power structures and gender-based assumptions widespread in the BBC from its inception through to the 1970s and 1980s, when international reporting opportunities first opened up for women, and then charts the changes that took place between the 1980s to the 2020s, including the recent controversy surrounding pay inequality. Featuring insights and anecdotes from the women themselves, it will appeal to a broad range of readers interested in the BBC, news journalism and gender, while also informing evolving academic debates around public service broadcasting, international news flows, media practice and issues of gender, race, class and power in the media industry. What drives women to become foreign news correspondents, do they approach their jobs differently from their male colleagues, and might their long battle for equal treatment and pay be nearing its end? These issues ? and more ? are handled with depth and nuance in BBC Women Reporting The World, an immensely readable work that will fascinate journalists and the public alike. Vivien Marsh, former BBC world news journalist, author of Seeking Truth in International TV News: China, CGTN and the BBC. This is a wonderful book which brings to life the extraordinary lives of many of the women foreign correspondents we take for granted on the BBC. It details the many challenges they faced from their employer and also from (men) colleagues and how they overcame them with determination. An inspiring read which I would thoroughly recommend.
