The mechanism of confinement itself is not described formally, and it is hard to investigate the properties of the fundamental theory in the determination of the structures and interactions of hadronic systems. The strong coupling and the extreme non-linearity of the theory severely limit the applicability and the extension and generalization of models and methods. The area of particle/nuclear physics called Hadron Physics deals with the phenomena determined by the confinement regime of QCD. The International Workshop on Hadron Physics 98 aimed to provide a framework for the comparative evaluation of different approaches to the difficult problems of QCD, and gathered together experts who have been leading developments in hadronic physics in recent years. As a central feature of the workshop program, there were four sets of lectures: (1) ?An Introduction to Effective Field Theory? (J F Donoghue); (2) ?Non-perturbative QCD? (A Di Giacomo); (3) ?Diffraction: Past, Present and Future? (E Predazzi); ?QCD at High Temperature and Density? (T Hatsuda). These courses provided a pedagogical and updated account of the recent developments that gave support to the discussion of frontier research problems. The lecturers did very useful work in the review and description of important lines of research. The lectures are reproduced in this book, together with invited talks and contributed papers dealing with specific research problems, for the use and appreciation of a wider audience."--Publisher's website. 517 3 $aHadron physics 98 606 $aHadrons$vCongresses 615 0$aHadrons 676 $a539.7216 702 $aFerreira$b Erasmo 702 $aCruz$b Frederico F. de Souza 702 $aAvancini$b Sidney dos Santos 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910164106403321 996 $aInternational Workshop on Hadron Physics 98$92585586 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03941nam 2200649Ia 450 001 9911020020603321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9786611319793 010 $a9781281319791 010 $a1281319791 010 $a9780470867082 010 $a0470867086 010 $a9780470867075 010 $a0470867078 035 $a(CKB)1000000000405931 035 $a(EBL)351412 035 $a(OCoLC)232611443 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000238780 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11208340 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000238780 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10233924 035 $a(PQKB)10366827 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC351412 035 $a(Perlego)2774480 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000405931 100 $a20070720d2008 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aRiver restoration $emanaging the uncertainty in restoring physical habitat /$feditors, Stephen Darby and David Sear 210 $aChichester, England ;$aHoboken, NJ $cWiley$dc2008 215 $a1 online resource (329 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9780470867068 311 08$a047086706X 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aRiver Restoration Managing the Uncertainty in Restoring Physical Habitat; Contents; Preface; List of Contributors; SECTION I: Introduction: The Nature and Significance of Uncertainty in River Restoration; 1: Uncertainty in River Restoration; 2: Sources of Uncertainty in River Restoration Research; 3: The Scope of Uncertainties in River Restoration; SECTION II: Planning and Designing Restoration Projects; 4: Planning River Restoration Projects: Social and Cultural Dimensions; 5: Conceptual and Mathematical Modelling in River Restoration: Do We Have Unreasonable Confidence? 327 $a6: Uncertainty in Riparian and Floodplain Restoration7: Hydrological and Hydraulic Aspects of River Restoration Uncertainty for Ecological Purposes; 8: Uncertainty Surrounding the Ecological Targets and Response of River and Stream Restoration; SECTION III: The Construction and Post-Construction Phases; 9: Constructing Restoration Schemes: Uncertainty, Challenges and Opportunities; 10: Measures of Success: Uncertainty and Defining the Outcomes of River Restoration Schemes 327 $a11: Methods for Evaluating the Geomorphological Performance of Naturalized Rivers: Examples from the Chicago Metropolitan Area12: Uncertainty and the Management of Restoration Projects: The Construction and Early Post-Construction Phases; SECTION IV: Uncertainty and Sustainability: Restoration in the Long Term; 13: The Sustainability of Restored Rivers: Catchment-Scale Perspectives on Long Term Response; 14: Uncertainty and the Sustainable Management of Restored Rivers; Index 330 $aRiver restoration projects are designed to recreate functional characteristics within a context of physical stability. They tend to focus on the development and application of geomorphic principles for river restoration design. Due to different models obtaining different results on the same problem, incomplete or absent data, and climatic/social/cultural changes, the designers and managers of such projects frequently face high levels of uncertainty. This book will provide a systematic overview of the issues involved in minimizing and coping with uncertainty in river restoration projects.
