An unpublished manuscript preserved in the National Library of Naples hands down both the original version of the libretto and the changes made by the reviser Luigi Serio. His papers reveal a real laboratory from which cuts, barely sketched attempts, incomplete pieces, numbers in multiple versions and requests from the composer emerge.
