This was nothing unusual for a successful European director: - Metro's bring - ing them in by car load - , as Photoplay stated in 1926. At the time, Sjo?stro?m was Sweden's most renowned director, who had become world famous for his austere and naturalistic film style. Sjo?stro?m stayed in Hollywood for seven years and made nine films. What happened during those years to the characteristic style that he had developed in Sweden? How was it transformed by Hollywood? Did he maintain any of his stylistic particularities from the Swedish period? How were his Hollywood films received by the American and Swedish critics? This portrayal of a European in Hollywood reveals how Sjo?stro?m, in adapting to the new production system, integrated and developed various stylistic elements from the Swedish years in a radically different context. Transition and Transformation is the first book-length study dedicated to the films of Victor Sjo?stro?m made in Hollywood, which also nuances the picture of the American production system. 410 0$aFilm Culture in Transition 517 $aTransition and Transformation 606 $aMotion pictures$vPeriodicals 615 0$aMotion pictures 676 $a791 700 $aFlorin$b Bo$0801868 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910634072103321 996 $aTransition and Transformation$91803132 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01613oam 2200505zu 450 001 9911007371603321 005 20210807003129.0 010 $a1-62870-925-1 035 $a(CKB)1000000000703949 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000384614 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12111752 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000384614 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10342227 035 $a(PQKB)11164191 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000703949 100 $a20160829d1999 uy 101 0 $aeng 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe structure and rheology of complex fluids 210 31$a[Place of publication not identified]$cOxford University Press$d1999 225 0 $aTopics in chemical engineering The structure and rheology of complex fluids 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a0-19-512197-X 517 1 $aComplex fluids 531 $aTHE STRUCTURE & RHEOLOGY OF COMPLEX FLUIDS 531 $aSTRUCTURE AND RHEOLOGY OF COMPLEX FLUIDS 606 $aComplex fluids 606 $aRheology 606 $aChemical Engineering$2HILCC 606 $aChemical & Materials Engineering$2HILCC 606 $aEngineering & Applied Sciences$2HILCC 615 0$aComplex fluids. 615 0$aRheology. 615 7$aChemical Engineering 615 7$aChemical & Materials Engineering 615 7$aEngineering & Applied Sciences 676 $a530.4/2 700 $aLarson$b Ronald G$021120 801 0$bPQKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911007371603321 996 $aStructure and Rheology of Complex Fluids$9357613 997 $aUNINA
