The fifth edition is completely revised, each chapter thoroughly rewritten, a new chapter added on surface modification, and information updated from current engineering references. Descriptions of testing methods have been dropped because they are readily accessible elsewhere, and all references to the traditional three- digit classification system for tool steels has been dropped in favor of the AISI/SAI classification, which is used exclusively.
