By following the history of Emersonian criticism over the years, including research surrounding Emerson and reading theory, these chapters provide a persuasive and accessible exploration of Emerson that highlight the value of his work for both literary and reading scholars. Boatright argues that while Emerson predates the research in reading studies that emerged in the early twentieth century, his ideas around reading engagement, shared reading experiences, and experimentation with reading are exceedingly relevant for encouraging healthy reading practices in the literature classroom. Michael Boatright is Associate Professor in the Department of English Studies and Director of English Education at Western Carolina University, USA. Holding a PhD in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia, he focused much of his early career on contributing scholarship to the field of Emerson and reading studies. When not writing about Emerson, he conducts research in the field of adolescent literature and teaches courses on the subject to aspiring English teachers. A transplant from Atlanta, he lives in Asheville with his wife Sarah and their mischievous cats. 410 0$aAmerican Literature Readings in the 21st Century,$x2634-5803 606 $aEducation in literature 606 $aLiteracy 606 $aLiterature, Modern$y19th century 606 $aAmerica$xLiteratures 606 $aLiterature and Pedagogy 606 $aLiteracy 606 $aNineteenth-Century Literature 606 $aNorth American Literature 615 0$aEducation in literature. 615 0$aLiteracy. 615 0$aLiterature, Modern 615 0$aAmerica$xLiteratures. 615 14$aLiterature and Pedagogy. 615 24$aLiteracy. 615 24$aNineteenth-Century Literature. 615 24$aNorth American Literature. 676 $a808.803557 700 $aBoatright$b Michael$01785616 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910983059703321 996 $aRevisioning Emerson As a Theorist of Reading$94317138 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00769nam0-2200265 --450 001 9911025280003321 005 20250916081001.0 100 $a20250916d1977----kmuy0itay5050 ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $aa 001yy 200 1 $aCafé-chantant$fMaria Teresa Contini, Paolo A.
