The intervening years have seen the corporate university grow and extend to the point where its evolution into a large business corporation is seemingly complete. This book examines the factors contributing to the transformation of the university from a site of culture and knowledge to what might be termed an 'information factory', and explores strategies for how, in Readings' words, members of the academic community might continue to 'dwell in the ruins of the university' in a productive and authentic way. Drawing on the work of critics and philosophers such as, amongst others, Barthes, Derrida, Lyotard and Deleuze, The University in Dissent suggests that this can only be achieved subversively through the development of a community of philosophers who are prepared to challenge and critique the mission statement of the 'university of excellence' from within, focusing on how scholarly and academic writing will develop in this new era Summarising, contextualising and extending previous understandings of the rise of corporatism and the subsequent demise of the traditional aims and values of the university, Rolfe assesses the situation in contemporary UK and international settings. He recognises that change is at the core of current university education and explores some of the challenges and consequences of this shift in the academic world, showing how academics can work with, and against, change. This timely and thought provoking book is a must read for all academics at University level, as well as education policy makers"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aResearch into higher education (SRHE). 606 $aEducation, Higher$xAims and objectives$zGreat Britain 606 $aHigher education and state$zGreat Britain 606 $aBusiness and education$zGreat Britain 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEducation, Higher$xAims and objectives 615 0$aHigher education and state 615 0$aBusiness and education 676 $a378.010941 700 $aRolfe$b Gary.$0903749 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463130803321 996 $aThe university in dissent$92020105 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03329nam 22007095 450 001 9910980481103321 005 20250227093727.0 010 $a9783031701696 010 $a3031701690 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-70169-6 035 $a(CKB)37627862700041 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC31909060 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL31909060 035 $a(OCoLC)1503844524 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-70169-6 035 $a(EXLCZ)9937627862700041 100 $a20250214d2024 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aJosef Schächter: Philosophical Writings and Documents in the Context of the Vienna Circle, Volume I $eBefore the Second World War /$fedited by Esther Heinrich-Ramharter, Friedrich Stadler 205 $a1st ed. 2024. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer Nature Switzerland :$cImprint: Springer,$d2024. 215 $a1 online resource (321 pages) 225 1 $aVienna Circle Institute Library ;$v11 311 08$a9783031701689 311 08$a3031701682 327 $aIntroduction -- Dissertation and Examiner?s Report by Moritz Schlick -- Prolegomena zu einer kritischen Grammatik -- On the Essence of Philosophy -- Ein Beitrag zu einer Analyse des Begriffs Kultur -- Religion and Science -- Eine kurze Einführung in die Logistik -- Review of F.
