CONCLUSION""; ""REFERENCES"" 330 3 $aBotswana is typical of the countries that are endowed with abundant natural resources. Although it is commonly accepted that resource-rich economies tend to fail in accelerating growth, Botswana has experienced the most remarkable economic performance in the region. Using the latest cross-country data, this study empirically readdresses the question of whether resource abundance can contribute to growth. It finds that governance determines the extent to which the growth effects of resource wealth can materialize. In developing countries in particular, the quality of regulation, such as the predictability of changes of regulations, and anticorruption policies, such as transparency and accountability in the public sector, are most important for effective natural resource management and growth. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/138 606 $aEconomic development$zBotswana 606 $aNatural resources$zBotswana$xManagement 606 $aAgricultural and Natural Resource Economics$2imf 606 $aEconomic policy$2imf 606 $aEmpirical Studies of Trade$2imf 606 $aEnvironmental and Ecological Economics: General$2imf 606 $aEnvironmental management$2imf 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aExports$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aNatural Resources$2imf 606 $aNatural resources$2imf 606 $aNon-renewable resources$2imf 606 $aNonrenewable Resources and Conservation: General$2imf 606 $aNternational cooperation$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aPublic Finance$2imf 606 $aResource management in revenue administration$2imf 606 $aRevenue$2imf 606 $aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General$2imf 606 $aTerms of trade$2imf 606 $aTrade: General$2imf 607 $aBotswana$2imf 615 0$aEconomic development 615 0$aNatural resources$xManagement. 615 7$aAgricultural and Natural Resource Economics 615 7$aEconomic policy 615 7$aEmpirical Studies of Trade 615 7$aEnvironmental and Ecological Economics: General 615 7$aEnvironmental management 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aExports 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aNatural Resources 615 7$aNatural resources 615 7$aNon-renewable resources 615 7$aNonrenewable Resources and Conservation: General 615 7$aNternational cooperation 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aPublic Finance 615 7$aResource management in revenue administration 615 7$aRevenue 615 7$aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General 615 7$aTerms of trade 615 7$aTrade: General 700 $aIimi$b Atsushi$01806422 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bAfrican Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910975147603321 996 $aDid Botswana Escape from the Resource Curse$94371125 997 $aUNINA
