Federal courts have long recognised that there are many exceptions to these requirements, one of which is the border search exception. The border search exception permits government officials to conduct "routine" searches based on no suspicion of wrongdoing whatsoever. On the other hand, when warrantless border searches are particularly invasive, and thus "non-routine", they are permissible only when customs officials have, at a minimum, a "reasonable suspicion" of wrongdoing. This book examines the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as it relates today to border security, government access to phone calling activity and related records, student strip searches, and governmental drug testing and compulsory DNA collection from people who have been convicted on criminal charges. 410 0$aLaws and legislation series. 606 $aSearches and seizures$zUnited States 615 0$aSearches and seizures 676 $a345.73/0522 701 $aKessler$b Jesse V$01872408 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910973947103321 996 $aThe Fourth Amendment$94481561 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02926nam 22006374a 450 001 9910958169903321 005 20251116215648.0 010 $a1-281-72943-4 010 $a9786611729431 010 $a0-300-12910-6 024 7 $a10.12987/9780300129106 035 $a(CKB)1000000000471816 035 $a(StDuBDS)AH23049557 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000102223 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11116694 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000102223 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10049699 035 $a(PQKB)10159025 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3420022 035 $a(DE-B1597)485210 035 $a(OCoLC)952732414 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780300129106 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3420022 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10170048 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL172943 035 $a(OCoLC)923589952 035 $z(OCoLC)952732414 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000471816 100 $a20030623d2004 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aAmerican Judaism $ea history /$fJonathan D. Tracing American Judaism from its origins in the colonial era through the present day, Jonathan Sarna explores the ways in which Judaism adapted in this new context. How did American culture-predominantly Protestant and overwhelmingly capitalist-affect Jewish religion and culture? And how did American Jews shape their own communities and faith in the new world?Jonathan Sarna, a preeminent scholar of American Judaism, tells the story of individuals struggling to remain Jewish while also becoming American. He offers a dynamic and timely history of assimilation and revitalization, of faith lost and faith regained. The first comprehensive history of American Judaism in over fifty years, this book is both a celebration of 350 years of Jewish life in America and essential reading for anyone interested in American religion and life. 606 $aJudaism$zUnited States$xHistory 606 $aJews$zUnited States$xHistory 615 0$aJudaism$xHistory. 615 0$aJews$xHistory. 676 $a296/.0973 700 $aSarna$b Jonathan D$0626200 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910958169903321 996 $aAmerican Judaism$91218753 997 $aUNINA
