There is loose agreement that research data should be accessible, but wide disagreement over the oedepth to which the public has such a right. The National Academies (TM) Science, Technology, and Law Program held a workshop to explore the mounting tensions in the federal regulatory process between the need to provide access to research data and the need to protect the integrity of the research process. The workshop provided a picture of the debate arising from passage of the Shelby Amendment and the resulting OMB revisions of Circular A-110. This report is a summary of the workshop. 410 0$aCompass series. 606 $aCommunication in science$vCongresses 606 $aResearch$xInformation services$vCongresses 606 $aInformation technology$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aPublic records$xAccess control$zUnited States$vCongresses 615 0$aCommunication in science 615 0$aResearch$xInformation services 615 0$aInformation technology 615 0$aPublic records$xAccess control 676 $a501 712 02$aNational Academy of Sciences (U.S.).$bScience, Technology, and Law Panel. 712 02$aNational Academy of Sciences (U.S.).$bPolicy and global Affairs. 712 02$aNational Research Council (U.S.) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910973745503321 996 $aAccess to research data in the 21st century$94366507 997 $aUNINA
