It documents substantial increases in foreign bank presence, with many more home and host countries. Current market shares of foreign banks average 20 percent in OECD countries and 50 percent elsewhere. Foreign banks have higher capital and more liquidity, but lower profitability than domestic banks do. Only in developing countries is foreign bank presence negatively related with domestic credit creation. During the global crisis foreign banks reduced credit more compared to domestic banks, except when they dominated the host banking systems. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2012/010 606 $aBanks and banking, Foreign 606 $aInvestments, Foreign 606 $aBank credit$2imf 606 $aBanking$2imf 606 $aBanks and Banking$2imf 606 $aBanks and banking$2imf 606 $aBanks and banking, Foreign$2imf 606 $aBanks$2imf 606 $aCommercial banks$2imf 606 $aCredit$2imf 606 $aDepository Institutions$2imf 606 $aEmerging and frontier financial markets$2imf 606 $aFinance$2imf 606 $aFinance: General$2imf 606 $aFinancial institutions$2imf 606 $aFinancial Markets and the Macroeconomy$2imf 606 $aFinancial markets$2imf 606 $aFinancial sector development$2imf 606 $aFinancial services industry$2imf 606 $aForeign banks$2imf 606 $aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data)$2imf 606 $aInternational Business$2imf 606 $aInternational Investment$2imf 606 $aLong-term Capital Movements$2imf 606 $aMicro Finance Institutions$2imf 606 $aMonetary economics$2imf 606 $aMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: General$2imf 606 $aMoney and Monetary Policy$2imf 606 $aMoney$2imf 606 $aMortgages$2imf 606 $aMultinational Firms$2imf 607 $aUnited States$2imf 615 0$aBanks and banking, Foreign. 615 0$aInvestments, Foreign. 615 7$aBank credit 615 7$aBanking 615 7$aBanks and Banking 615 7$aBanks and banking 615 7$aBanks and banking, Foreign 615 7$aBanks 615 7$aCommercial banks 615 7$aCredit 615 7$aDepository Institutions 615 7$aEmerging and frontier financial markets 615 7$aFinance 615 7$aFinance: General 615 7$aFinancial institutions 615 7$aFinancial Markets and the Macroeconomy 615 7$aFinancial markets 615 7$aFinancial sector development 615 7$aFinancial services industry 615 7$aForeign banks 615 7$aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data) 615 7$aInternational Business 615 7$aInternational Investment 615 7$aLong-term Capital Movements 615 7$aMicro Finance Institutions 615 7$aMonetary economics 615 7$aMonetary Policy, Central Banking, and the Supply of Money and Credit: General 615 7$aMoney and Monetary Policy 615 7$aMoney 615 7$aMortgages 615 7$aMultinational Firms 676 $a332.1/52 700 $aHoren$b Neeltje$01816491 701 $aClaessens$b Stijn$0282431 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910973681803321 996 $aForeign Banks$94372834 997 $aUNINA
