This chapter first reviews recent empirical studies that examine factors associated with or predictive of East Asian HL proficiency development such as first language background, HL use and contact, and socio-psychological variables (e.g., attitude, motivation, and identity). The chapter also reviews the literature that investigates how parents view and experience HL proficiency development. The papers collected in this volume are also discussed where relevant. This chapter concludes by suggesting directions for future research concerning East Asian HL proficiency development. 410 0$aStudies in bilingualism ;$vv. 32. 606 $aNative language 606 $aImmigrants$zEast Asia 615 0$aNative language. 615 0$aImmigrants 676 $a401/.93 701 $aKondo-Brown$b Kimi$01802138 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910973664303321 996 $aHeritage language development$94347691 997 $aUNINA
