Compensation is a monthly cash benefit based on a rating schedule that determines the degree of disability on a scale of 0 to 100. Although a disability rating may also entitle a veteran to ancillary services, such as vocational rehabilitation and employment services, the rating schedule is out of date medically and contains ambiguous criteria and obsolete conditions and language. The current rating schedule emphasizes impairment and limitations or loss of specific body structures and functions which may not predict disability well. 21st Century System for Evaluating Veterans' Disability Benefits recommends that this schedule could be revised to include modern concepts of disability including work disability, nonwork disability, and quality of life. In addition to the need for an updated rating schedule, this book highlights the need for the Department of Veterans' Affairs to devote additional resources to systematic analysis of how well it is providing services or how much the lives of veterans are being improved, as well as the need for a program of research oriented toward understanding and improving the effectiveness of its benefits programs. 517 3 $aTwenty-first century system for evaluating veterans for disability benefits 606 $aDisabled veterans$zUnited States 606 $aDisability retirement$zUnited States 606 $aMilitary pensions$zUnited States 615 0$aDisabled veterans 615 0$aDisability retirement 615 0$aMilitary pensions 676 $a362.4086/97 701 $aMcGeary$b Michael G. They are often violent and hyper-aggressive, with life-changing effects on victims, and they send consistent messages of intolerance and bigotry. This ground-breaking book shows that disability hate crimes do exist, that they have unique characteristics which distinguish them from other hate crimes, and that more effective policies and practices can and must be developed to respond and prevent them. 606 $aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against 606 $aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against$zGreat Britain 606 $aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against$zUnited States 606 $aHate crimes 606 $aHate crimes$zGreat Britain 606 $aHate crimes$zUnited States 615 0$aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against. 615 0$aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against 615 0$aPeople with disabilities$xCrimes against 615 0$aHate crimes. 615 0$aHate crimes 615 0$aHate crimes 676 $a364.15087 700 $aSherry$b Mark$f1966-$01882917 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910974591203321 996 $aDisability hate crimes$94498570 997 $aUNINA
