This book places the ?paddharmaparvan within its literary and ideological contexts. In so doing it explores the development of a conception of brahmanic kingship morally justifiable within the terms of a debate largely set by various alternative social movements of the period. This book further explores the implications for our understanding of the Mah?bh?rata that follow from the ?paddharmaparvan's presentation as a poetically cohesive unit within itself and within the wider parameters of the Mah?bh?rata. 410 0$aBrill's Indological library ;$vv. 28. 606 $aKings and rulers$xMoral and ethical aspects$zIndia 615 0$aKings and rulers$xMoral and ethical aspects 676 $a294.5/923046 700 $aBowles$b Adam$01829802 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910971107903321 996 $aDharma, Disorder and the Political in Ancient India$94399866 997 $aUNINA
