The indices provide a theoretical benchmark for estimated real effective exchange rates, but differ from standard measures in that they are based on marginal rather than average sectoral shares in GDP or employment. The use of the new indices is illustrated by some simple calculations that highlight the potential exposure of the Irish economy to fluctuations in the euro-sterling exchange rate. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/209 606 $aCompetition$xEconometric models 606 $aIndex numbers (Economics) 606 $aAggregate Human Capital$2imf 606 $aAggregate Labor Productivity$2imf 606 $aCompetition$2imf 606 $aConsumer price indexes$2imf 606 $aCost and standard of living$2imf 606 $aCost of living$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aData Access$2imf 606 $aDeflation$2imf 606 $aEconomic theory$2imf 606 $aEmployment$2imf 606 $aFinance$2imf 606 $aFinance: General$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data)$2imf 606 $aIncome economics$2imf 606 $aInflation$2imf 606 $aIntergenerational Income Distribution$2imf 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aMethodology for Collecting, Estimating, and Organizing Macroeconomic Data$2imf 606 $aPrice indexes$2imf 606 $aPrice Level$2imf 606 $aReal effective exchange rates$2imf 606 $aUnemployment$2imf 606 $aWages$2imf 607 $aIreland$xEconomic conditions 607 $aIreland$2imf 615 0$aCompetition$xEconometric models. 615 0$aIndex numbers (Economics) 615 7$aAggregate Human Capital 615 7$aAggregate Labor Productivity 615 7$aCompetition 615 7$aConsumer price indexes 615 7$aCost and standard of living 615 7$aCost of living 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aData Access 615 7$aDeflation 615 7$aEconomic theory 615 7$aEmployment 615 7$aFinance 615 7$aFinance: General 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data) 615 7$aIncome economics 615 7$aInflation 615 7$aIntergenerational Income Distribution 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aMethodology for Collecting, Estimating, and Organizing Macroeconomic Data 615 7$aPrice indexes 615 7$aPrice Level 615 7$aReal effective exchange rates 615 7$aUnemployment 615 7$aWages 700 $aNeary$b J.
